Exploration History

1937: The ODM Annual Report 46 pt. first mentions that Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines Ltd. and the N.A. Timmins Corporation had prospecting parties working in the four townships that made up the Algoma Eastern Railway Company land grant; Dale, Newton, Coppell and Whigham Townships. This report mentions simply that gold discoveries were made in the vicinity of Hanson Lake. 1948: A small report by Sylvanite Gold Mines outlines prospecting in Coppell Township. 1950: Radiant Exploration Ltd. held a lease on the northern part of Coppell Township under agreement with Northern Ontario Lands Corporation Ltd. During this period Radiant Exploration conducted a program of exploration combining detailed geological mapping and prospecting. Radiant reported a pit on the east shore of Coppell Lake in a small bay that was said to contain visible gold. 1966: The Hanna Mining Company, as part of an agreement with the Algoma-Davis Timber Company, conducted an airborne electromagnetic survey and ground geological reconnaissance program over 6 patented townships of which Coppell Township was one. 1970-71: The U.S. Smelting and Refining Co. drilled a total of 3 holes into EM conductors in the northwest and southwest corners of Coppell Township. Hole NS-2 (304 ft), the subject of this report, was drilled in the southwest corner of Coppell Township just above a small lake and intersected anomalous zinc values. 1996-97: Inmet Mining - ground geophysics, 3 ddh. 2010: Red Pine Exploration Inc. completed an aerial electromagnetic and magnetic survey (T-6230 / 2.46831).

Schist-Unsubdivided 2 Quartzite Silty Host

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Anomalous zinc assay reported in a drill hole at a vertical depth of 46m. The unit is described as dark grey/black very fine grained massive 'cherty' argillite. Unit contains carbonate filled fractures up to 3/4 inches but average 1/16 inches.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Up to 1.5% sulphides occur as fine disseminates and in hair line fractures. Sulphides are mainly pyrite with some sphalerite and trace specks of chalcopyrite.

Aug 17, 2012 (A Wilson) - Assays returned values of 0.38% Zn and 0.02% Cu over 5 feet in cherty argillite. Assays from the Inmet drilling (Hole SWZ-08 in T-3823 / 2.17466) returned assays up to 4190 ppm Zn over 1.5 m.
