UTM Zone: 17    Easting: 398209.804   Northing: 5311125.599    UTM Datum: NAD83

Resident Geologist District: Timmins

NTS Grid: 41O16NW

Point Location Description: The mineralized outcrop was transferred from a company plan to a 1:20,000 photo.

Location Method: Data Compilation

Access Description: A secondary road which leads to Horwood Lake passes north of Stangiff Lake and the showing is about 400m south of the lake or 2 km from the road. This secondary road branches off the road leading to the Orofino Mine site and Newton township which in turn branches off the Dore Main Haul road. An old drill leading to the showing by a circuitous route comes in from the west.

Exploration History

1933 The ground was initially staked and some trenching was carried out by H. Landry which exposed quartz veins with disseminated pyrite and reportedly panned some gold. 1947 H. Beckwith carried out some diamond drilling on the showing but the logs are have been misplaced. 1963 Hardiman Bay Mines carried out a ground magnetometer survey over the area and drilled ten holes, five on a shear zone west of Stangiff Lake and the rest on the original showing south of the lake. At the showing, quartz veins are typically located on the contact between medium grained basalt - diorite and feldspar porphyry with some pyrite but no gold values were obtained. Another magnetic survey was carried out for Hardiman Bay Mines in 1965 which was followed by a geological mapping program in 1966 in the search for gold and base metals. One chip sample collected at this time ran 13 g/t Au over 1.2m. 1981 Northgate Exploration carried out an exploration program to the northwest of the known showing which consisted of geological mapping, humus sampling and a number of unmineralized quartz veins were found during this work.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - A network of quartz stringer are hosted in metavolcanics at surface and diamond drilling indicated that these stringers are larger at depth and associated with feldspar porphyry dyke contacts.
