Resident Geologist District: Timmins

NTS Grid: 41O16NW

Point Location Description: North slope of hill, Pyrite Hill, where sericite carbonate alteration occurs.

Location Method: Field Visit with GPS

Access Description: As the showing is close to the shore of Hardiman Bay, access is possible either by boat from a landing at the north end of Horwood Lake, or by a series of logging roads off the Kenogaming - Penhorwood Main Haul roads.

Exploration History

1936 P. Silam held the claims which contained the known mineralization and reportedly obtained values of 3 g/t. 1981 Kennco Exploration flew an airborne magnetic and VLF-EM survey that covered the area. 1988 Hardiman Bay Resources mapped and sampled the area. In this work they noted pyritic quartz veins hosted in carbonate altered metavolcanics.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - Near the reported area of the mineralization there is a strong shear zone which may be related to the mineralization. This shear trends to the southeast.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - The supracrustal rocks in the area consist of massive and pillowed Mg tholeiitic basalt with some intercalated pyroclastic calc alkaline metavolcanics and argillaceous plus arenaceous horizons. This sequence has been intruded by a number of porphyries. Close to the plotted location there is a shear zone with intense carbonate - sericite alteration. This schist has numerous cavities where pyrite has been eroded and could be termed a carbonate - sericite - chlorite schist.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - The original mineralized zone was not located and there is no description in the literature.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - A grab sample taken by the OGS returned 3.00 g/t Au. MDC 18 reports a sample taken from a sulphide-bearing vein contained 0.09 oz/t Au.

Site Visit Information

Date: Jul 30, 1992

Geologist: S Fumerton

Notes: An attempt was made to locate the original showing. From a search of the assessment files the most probable area was what was termed 'Pyrite Hill' by Hardiman Bay Resources. This hill was traversed and one small slumped pit was found at the top of the hill but such pits are numerous in the area. Down the north face of the hill there are numerous terraces but these are thought to be natural though formed of sericite carbonate schists. No veining corresponding to the original occurrence was found.
