Exploration History

1933 The claims were originally staked by H. Doutt for J.E. Lefever and subsequently amalgamated in a join property with Mrs Gilbert. Exploration following staking consisted of stripping and trenching along a gold mineralized quartz vein in a shear zone within basalts and porphyries. Later there are reports that the mineralized zone was drill tested. 1947 J. Lefever drilled a number of holes on his own account along the shores of Horwood Lake over the next three years with indifferent results. 1984 Orofino Resources carried out a reconnaissance mapping program which covered the area and examined a number of old trenches. However, no trenches were noted in the position of the Gilbert showing. 1986 Golden Dragon carried out reconnaissance mapping and noted an area of mineralization in the vicinity of the Gilbert showing based on old assessment work though were confused in calling this prospect the Liberator occurrence.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - Mineralization is confined to a northeast trending shear zone which is parallel to the foliation in the surrounding rocks. This shear is parallel to the shear zone at the Gifford occurrence further south.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Vein 1 Vein Host
Mafic lava flow-unsubdivided 2 Basalt N/A
Porphyry-unsubdivided 3 N/A

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - The mineralization is reportedly restricted to a single large outcrop of mafic metavolcanics. These rocks are cut by a number of small porphyry dykes trending northeast parallel to the regional foliation but there is no obvious deformation.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - Narrow quartz stringers are confined to a shear zone in basalts with local quartz porphyry dykes. Some pyrite, lesser chalcopyrite, and trace amounts of gold were reported in the original work but never duplicated.

Date: Jul 23, 1992

Geologist: S Fumerton

Notes: A brief attempt was made to locate the main showing. The large outcrop shown in Harding's work was found together with a number of small, debris filled pits to the northeast. However, no quartz veining, porphyry dykes or quartz veins were observed.
