Exploration History

1935 The ground was originally staked by A.H. Smith and five veins hosted in metavolcanics were exposed in a stripping and trenching program. 1961 Ajax Minerals mapped an area to the immediate southwest and though a number of quartz veins in metavolcanics were sampled in the vicinity of the original work, none contained any gold. 1981 Kennco Exploration flew a combined magnetic and VLF-EM survey over the area. 1987 F. Ross and D. Morin exposed a large quartz vein by trenching. Allegedly this was the original vein and was one of four hosted in metavolcanics. Reportedly good gold values were obtained but no records are on file. 1990 Asarco Exploration mapped a large area which included the showing but drill tested base metal targets to the north east.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - The large quartz veins appear to parallel the contact of the granodiorite plug.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - The mineralization is hosted in a granodiorite plug and adjacent strongly foliated basalts. The granodiorite is medium to coarse grained, massive with hornblende as the main mafic mineral forming up to 20% of the rock. Quartz also forms about 20% of the rock. The quartz veins extend to the southwest into the metavolanics.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - Disseminated pyrite occurs in the granodiorite matrix as fine grains or more rarely as coarser euhedral grains. There is also very fine, sparsely disseminated molybdenite in the matrix of the granodiorite. The granodiorite is cut by a number of large quartz veins trending south southwest. Perpendicular to these veins are a number of extension veins which together form a stock work. The quartz is medium to very coarse grained, white, locally sugary but typically massive. Within the quartz veins no sulphides were observed but there is a week and patchy rust stain to the quartz veins. N.B. There are a number of similarities between this prosect and the Monte Carlo prospect further to the northeast in Hardiman Bay.
