Location

Township or Area: Genoa

Latitude: 47° 50' 6.02"    Longitude: -82° 12' 10.65"

UTM Zone: 17    Easting: 409979.72   Northing: 5298662.61    UTM Datum: NAD83

Resident Geologist District: Timmins

NTS Grid: 41O16SE

Point Location Description: Pit within a 50m long trench on a southern crest of a ridge.

Location Method: Field Visit with GPS

Access Description: Access is difficult and involves a circuitous road trip using the Sultan access road from Highway 144, then driving along the Mallard forest access road to the old trail to Rush Lake. This trail is a 4x4 trail and is 7km to the landing at Rush Lake. From the landing a boat must be taken up the length of Rush Lake to a bay on the northwest shore. Then from this point the showing is a 2km traverse along a well marked trail and down a grid line. Alternatively secondary forestry roads at the southern end of the Kenogaming Main Haul road come within 2km of the eastern end of Falconbridge grid about 2km from the showing.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - The mineralization is hosted in the Woman River banded iron formation. Regionally this iron formation is composed of vary proportions of chert, jasper, magnetite, hematite, sulphide, silicate, and carbonate. The sulphide facies are more dominant in the northeast in the vicinity of the showing especially where sulphides occur in the underlying felsic metavolcanic. Locally garnet porphyroblasts occur in the amphibole rich horizons. Underlying the iron formation is a sequence of felsic metavolcanics primarily composed of flow breccias, pyroclastics and minor massive flows. These rocks have been subjected to chlorite and sericite alteration. Immediately underlying the sulphide facies iron formation and about 100m northeast of the showing is a wedge of felsic debris breccias. Overlying the iron formation is an altered tholeiitic sequence of pillowed and massive basaltic flows. Alteration is dominantly carbonate with some sericite/biotite. Feldspar porphyry dykes have been intersected in drill core in the vicinity of the showing. Also thin fine grained felsic veinlets with disseminated pyrite cut the iron formation at shallow angles.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (S Fumerton) - Mineralization varies between near pure sections of massive galena in the centre of the main trench with higher proportions of sphalerite along the margins and the known lateral limits. Chalcopyrite occurs together with sphalerite and galena in bands within the iron formation along strike 15m east of the main pit. Fine disseminated sphalerite has been observed in the chert horizons within the iron formation. This sphalerite is not associated with other sulphides and locally forms discontinuous trails partially concentrated along one contact. Similarly in the amphibole rich beds fine grained pyrite is concentrated along one contact. Within the feldspar porphyry there are trace amounts of very fine grained galena disseminated in the matrix.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Grab samples of the iron formation returned assays ranging from 35.9 to 41.28% in the magnetite iron formation. Samples from the pyritic section returned values of 20.15 to 29.00% Fe. A high grade sample taken in 1908 assayed 73% Pb and 6% Zn. Grab samples taken by the OGS in 1970 returned vlaues of 2.88% Pb, 6.7% Zn;0.6 g/t Au, 24 g/t Ag, 43.5% Pb, 0.26% Zn; 6.2g/t Ag, 0.37% Pb, 0.68% Zn. Grab samples taken by the OGS in 1992 returned values of 37.72% Pb, 7.16% Zn; 0.36% Pb, 0.06% Zn.

Site Visit Information

Date: Aug 26, 1992

Geologist: S Fumerton

Notes: The showing was visited together with Marc Leroux (MNDM) while visiting the Falconbridge Exploration camp on the Rush river. The showing is located on a grid line L168E at 49+50N on the present Falconbridge grid. This line follows various other cut lines some of which are very old. At the showing there are a series of trenches that follow the stratigraphy, a few trenches across the stratigraphy and some old diamond drill casing. Old AX core is stacked in three piles which are now overgrown with moss. There are no markers on the core and the boxes are falling apart. More recently this core in the upper boxes has been resampled in various ways, 1) composite samples collected in double 20cm wide swaths across the boxes, 2) composite samples collected by selecting alternate pieces of split core.
