Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - It is reported that the 55 foot deep Burton shaft was sunk 'on a dark quartz vein in a highly sheared zone in the Keewatin volcanics'. Apparently, low values of lead, zinc and copper are reported to have occurred associated with the quartz veining.

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Grab samples collected by the OGS in 1993 returned the following values: 0.03 g/t Au, 0.04 g/t Ag, 0.0136% Cu, 0.0015% Pb, 0.0047% Zn; 0.03 g/t Au, 0.5 g/t Ag, 0.0097% Cu, 0.0070% Pb, 0.0142% Zn.

Nov 21, 2012 (P Bousquet) - Vencan Gold Corp. drilled hole VG-06-01 in the vicinity of the Burton shaft. The best intersection from that hole was 1.55% Zn and 0.35% Pb over 6.05 metres (T-5561).

Site Visit Information

Date: Oct 04, 2001

Geologist: D Draper

Notes: The Falconbridge property in Marion and Genoa Townships which hosts both the Jefferson occurrence and the Burton showing was visited in the company of Falconbridge geologists. The shaft opening which is believed to have been sunk over the location of the Burton showing has the approximate dimensions of 3x3m and can be seen to be timbered down to about 3m, the level of the present water table. There are small piles of broken rock adjacent to the shaft but this grey foliated and rusty rock generally does not contain significant sulphides. One grab sample however was found to contain 2-3cm quartz veining and some sulphides. This rock was sent for assay. Debris around the shaft, which includes an old engine block and the axle from a small rail cart, would seem to indicate considerable work in this area. The remnants of an old log cabin is also located in the clearing close to the shaft. The closest outcrop to the shaft opening is found about 10m to the northeast. This rock appears to be predominantly massive mafic volcanic with only trace pyrite observed. (From Visit notes by K. Houle)
