Geology Comments

May 29, 2019 (A Wilson) - The banded iron formation is found at the contact between underlying pyroclastic rocks and overlying intermediate to mafic flow rocks. Porphyry sills and dikes and younger diabase dikes transect these rocks.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Ironstone-unsubdivided 1 Host
Felsic Tuff-Breccia 2 Rhyolite Tuff, Breccia Footwall
Mafic pillowed flow 3 Basalt To Andesite Pillowed Hanging Wall

Lithology Comments

Feb 10, 2010 (A Wilson) - White to pink rhyolite breccia predominates as the foot wall of the iron formation. The iron formation is composed of chert, jasper and magnetite with siderite and pyrite locally. The iron content is notably higher at the base of the iron formation in contact with the felsic metavolcanics. Andesitic to basaltic flows containing well-developed pillow structures conformably overlie the banded iron formation. Coarse-grained dioritic phases, as well as granitic sills and dikes, are locally present.
