Geology Comments

Oct 25, 2013 (A Wilson) - Most of the shearing that occurs in the area is probably related to the emplacement of the Chester Granitoid Complex. Though some tectonic shearing is noticeable, the vein occurs in a discontinuous manner within the shear zone.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Quartz Diorite 1 Quartz Diorite Host
Granodiorite 2 Host
Vein 3 Quartz Host

Lithology Comments

Oct 25, 2013 (A Wilson) - The general area of the shaft is underlain by hornblende quartz diorites to diorites which have been intruded by a number of small finer-grained felsic to granodiorite dikes. In the vicinity of the shaft, there is a weakly developed and open stockwork of quartz veinlets. Most of these veinlets take the form of extension veinlets, are hosted in the granodioritic phases and appear to be magmatic sweats.

Mineralization Comments

Oct 25, 2013 (A Wilson) - Sparsely disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite occur in the matrix of the granodiorite. Pyrite sporadically occurs in the quartz veinlets. Samples collected by Chesgo Mines in 1947 graded 8 g/t Au, 143 g/t Ag and 0.36% Cu. The results for a series of grab samples along the vein in 1979 graded 8.8 g/t Au. A grab sample collected by the OGS in 1993 returned values of 0.2 g/t Au, 0.2 g/t Ag and 0.02% Cu.
