Exploration History

1911: Harry Oakes — discovered gold on the property. 1914 – 1918: Lake Shore Mines Limited — No. 1 shaft sunk to 400 feet on the South (No. 1) Vein Zone and 7,464 feet of underground development on levels at 100, 200, 300, and 400 feet. Installation of a 65-ton mill; milling began in 1918. 1919 – 1965: Lake Shore Mines Limited — sinking of 3 more shafts, underground development; milling capacity reached a maximum of 2,400 tons per day, and production was continuous until the mine closed in July, 1965.
