Exploration History

Discovered in 1938 by H.G. Robinson. He discovered gold-bearing quartz veinlets and stringers in sheared and silicified syenite near the easternend of a small stock of porphyritic syenite abou 400 m North of Moray Lake. The property was optioned in 1938 by Howey Gold Mines Ltd. who reported grab samples up to 0.42 opt Au. 1941 Sylvanite Gold Mines Ltd. report by G.L. Holebrooke indicateds 8ft. by 12 ft. area of silicification in syenite with assays up to 5.60 dwts. 1964-65 Noranda Exploration Company, Ltd., Magnetometer surveys. Bright (1984) indicates that Noranda took a selected (75 lb.) sample from the new gold occurrence near the western ent of the syenite stock and obtained an assay of 0.75 opt Au, 3.90 opt Ag and 0.45% Pb. 1973 Pan Ore Gold Mines Ltd. completed gological mapping, ground mag, IP, and VLF EM on or near this occurrence. Diamond Drill hole PO-1 cut under this occurrence but did not encounter occurrence grade mineralization. 1977 Rio Tinto Canadian Exploration Ltd. did diamond drilling near this occurrence, but did not actually test the mineralization. 1980 Newmont Exploration drilled Z-80-5 to test this occurrence, Assays were not disclosed 1986 635540 Ontario Ltd. drilled 2 ddh to the through the Fiset Showing. Anomalous gold values reported from the altered brick red syenite. 1997 M. A. Tremblay completed prospecting and resampling of this occurrence and reported assy results of 13.2 g/t Au and 3.6 g/t Au frpm Quartz and 20 ppb Au and 180 ppb Au from altered syenite.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (G Seim) - Holbrooke (1941) reports that the occurrence is found in a syenite cut by about 1% 2 inch to 20 inch wide quartz veins. The veins occurr as 2 sets one striking N30W/steeply east and the other N60E/80 north. The walls of the vein contain sparse coarse pyrite. Low assays are repoted from this material. The feature of interest at that time was a 8 ft. wide silicified zone in the syenite that was expose in 2 trenches 12 ft. apart. The silificied zone is cut by quartz stringers and is well mineralized with coarse pyirite. J.H. Tremblay, (1986) describes the showing as a 15 cm thick auriferous quartz vein occurring in a pink porphyritic syenite. The vein stikes 074/67S and was explosed by bulldoze trenching for a distance of 100 ft. Geophysical interpretation indicates a N trending falut immediatley to the east of the showing. The 1980 Newmont drill hole Z-80-5 intersected mafic porphyritic syenite cut by 1% 2 cm to 60 cm quartz veins contaioning pyrite, galena, and chalcopyrite. The log also reports many leucocratic patches in the syenite.

Dec 07, 2005 (G Seim) - The Fiset showing was orrigianlly identified as a zone of silicification with in a syenite. Newmont drill hole Z-80-5 cut a wide width of mafic syenite cut be 2 cm to 60 cm quartz veins containing py,cp, gn and many narrow zones describe as leucocratic patches.
