Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Large >50m clearing of exposed serpentinite / peridotite that has been at one time stripped and sampled at various locations. Rock appears highly weathered, grey/blue to black serpentinite with medium to coarse grained cumulate texture. Cumulate grains range in size from 2-10mm. Rusty fracture surfaces and serpentine slips are common.

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Occasional veins of asbestos and actinolite / tremolite have been observed in the northeast portion of the clearing. Veins commonly run several metres and are generally small and in the range of 3-7mm. White alteration halos extend a few centimetres on each side of most veins. Asbestos fibres are generally poorly developed and actinolite/tremolite prevails.

Notes: This outcrop is but one of many in the area that is indicated as having asbestos mineralization as can be seen on Map 2231 accompanying GR 97 'Geology of the Kukatush-Sewell Lake Area'. N. Hogg discusses the asbestos mineralization of the immediate area in a report on Dunvegan Mines (T-527) as being 'a pale amber colour, and of good quality. However, it occurs over narrow widths, and the fibres are short. In some cases veinlets up to a half inch were observed, but in these veinlets, the fibre is jointed. No individual fibre longer than 3/16' was observed. Fibre exposed to date is in areas of small lateral extent, too small to be considered as ore bodies.'
