Exploration History

1955-56 Dunvegan Mines Ltd. conducted magnetic and electromagnetic surveys in an area below Crawford Lake. Dunvegan Mines then drilled nine holes into an iron formation anomaly outlined in the previous survey. Drill logs reported pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite mineralization with associated anomalous Cu assays. 1965 The Canadian Johns-Manville Co. conducted magnetic and electromagnetic surveys on their Crawford Lake claim group which coincides with the approximate location of the Dunvegan showing. 1973 Hanna Mining conducted a regional survey and review of the nickel-copper mineralization in the Swayze Greenstone belt. As part of this study the ultramafic rocks across Kenogaming Township were sampled and assayed. 1983 MPH Consulting Ltd. conducted an airborne magnetic and VLF-electromagnetic survey over the majority of Reeves, Sewell, Penhorwood and Kenogaming Townships for the HWS Syndicate (R.J. Sheppard). 1990 A prospector, V. Larche, conducted a program of stripping, trenching and sampling on a property to the south and south east of Crawford Lake. This area coincides with the area of the Dunvegan showing. A few weakly anomalous Cu values were reported.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Drill hole intersected a 5' section a what is described as mafic gneiss containing 40% pyrrhotite and a few stringers of chalcopyrite. This section is reported to have analyzed 0.33% Cu and trace Co.

Jun 13, 2016 (P Bousquet) - The host of the mineralization is said to be amphibole-chlorite-magnetite gneiss (T-157)

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (K Houle) - Reported occasional fine stringers of chalcopyrite and up to 40% pyrrhotite.

Feb 05, 2016 (A Wilson) - The best intersection assayed 0.92 oz/t Au over 5 feet. The best assay from the 1956 diamond drilling returned 0.37% Cu over 4.75 ft and 0.21% Cu over5 ft. Assays from sampling completed by the OGS returned gold values ranging from 0.07 oz/t to 0.555 oz/t; Cu values from 0.07% to 0.11%; zinc values ranged from 1.73% to 5.45%.

Jun 13, 2016 (P Bousquet) - Three holes (1, 4 and 9) from Dunvegan drilling campaign intersected up to 0.21 to 0.37% Cu over a range of 4.75 to 5.5 ft (T-157). The three holes intersected an amphibole-chlorite-magnetite gneiss, containing stringers of chalcopyrite.

Mineral Record Details

Site Visit Information

Date: Jul 10, 1986

Geologist: J Ireland

Notes: The writer visited the site of extensive trenching over the main Dunvegan gold-zinc showing, noting geology and structure. The Dunvegan zone is defined by a persistent zone of foliation trending NW - SE with associated narrow shears mineralized chiefly with pyrite and minor amounts of chalcopyrite and sphalerite. Sulphide mineralization appears roughly stratiform with the exception of later sphalerite - carbonate stringers that cut the stratigraphy at low angles. Concentrations of pyrite form distinctive horizons 0.5 to 4.0 metres wide within a package of laminated, dark grey intermediate to light yellow sericitic lapilli tuffs up to 50m thick that make up the mineralized zone. Date: Jul 25, 1993

Geologist: K Houle

Notes: An attempt was made to locate the showing but due to the imprecise nature of the location given the showing was not found. It was felt that the nature and the grade of the showing did not warrant further searches.
