Exploration History

Discovered in 1910 by Terry Carlton. Assays range from 0.02 to 0.4 opt Au over 2.5'. A shallow shaft was sunk and 7 ddh were completed. Gold values were erratic. The gold occurs in a shear zone through quartz diorite. 1935 Jowsey Denton Gold Mines Ltd. completed 14 ddh on this occurrence and the Brown McDade prospect to the west. Drill hole XIV reportedly intersected a zone averaging 0.297 opt Au over 22.8 ft. About 750 ft. to the east Jowsey Denton Gold Mines Ltd. reported a gold assay in a parallel shear zone in mafic agglomerate. This zone returned 0.09 opt Au over 3.5 ft. Brown-McDade Mines Ltd. acquired claims covering the occurrence in 1979 and completed ground magnetometer, VLF-EM surveys, and power stripping. In 1983, Hollinger Argus Ltd. optioned part of the Brown McDade property. Hollinger completed 3 diamond drill holes on this occurrence with best assays of 0.070 opt Au over 2', 0.080 opt Au over 3 ft. and 0.064 opt Au over 1.5 ' in the 3 holes respectively.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (G Seim) - This occurrence consists of quartz-carbonate-sulphide veins contained in sheared and altered quartz diorite. The shearing and veins apparently trend 025 and dip 60 to the east. The sheared quartz diorite is silicified and carbonatized.
