Exploration History

Discovered in 1910 by Terry Carlton. a 42' shaft was sunk on the occurrence. 1935 Jowsey Denton Gold Mines Ltd. complete 14 ddh on this occurrence and the Brown McDade prospect to the west. Brown-McDade Mines Ltd. acquired claims covering the occurrence in 1979 and completed ground magnetometer, VLFEM surveys, power stripping and power stripping. This was followed by 8 ddh (422.5 ft.) testing the granite/greenstone contact to the north of the zone found by Mr. Carlton. A bulk sample consisting of 1038 tons was extracted from 2 pits on the main zone in 1982 and had an average grade of 0.14 opt Au. In 1983, Hollinger Argus Ltd. optioned part of the Brown McDade property and completed geological mapping, magnetometer, electromagnetic and IP surveys. 16 ddh totalling 3965 ft. tested several targets including the extent of the known gold mineralization. Several holes intersected ore grade values, the best interval averaging 0.236 opt Au over 15 ft. In 1985, Newmont Exploration of Canada Ltd. optioned the Brown McDade property and completed lithogeochemical sampling, and HLEM. This was followed by 4 ddh on the main zone totaling 753 m in 1987.

Geology Comments

Jun 17, 2020 (G Seim) - The main zone occurred within altered basalt flows. It consists of quartz-carbonate veining in shear zone striking 030. The shear zone and quartz vein are mineralized with pyrite, arsenopyrite and pyrrhotite. About 400 ft.to the northeast of the Main Zone, drilling by Hollinger Argus intersected further intersected several bluish quartz veins in silicified (andesite) basalt. The quartz veins are mineralized with pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. About 400 ft. to the north of the main zone, gold values were also encountered in cherty quartz veins in the andesite near the contact with the granodiorite.
