Point Location Description: Shaft Symbol near sample 8662 on Geology map in assessment file T-2733

Location Method: Field Visit with GPS

Access Description: Access to this occurrence is gained by traveling about 5.5 km south from South Porcupine along Stringers Road. As this point, a gated, old logging road leads southwest to the north west corner of patented claim HR1116 (P.8632). The shaft, is located about 150 m northwest of the NW corner of the patented claim. As this occurrence was stripped and power washed in 1991, a trail should exist between the bush road and the occurrence.

Exploration History

1920 Big Dyke Consolidated Gold Mines, Ltd. aqcuires McRae, Fishley and Williamsom claims. 1921 Big Dyke Cnosolidated Gold mines Ltd. 4 shafts varying from 15 to 80 ft., 17 pits (5 ft. deep) and 15 trenches. The 80 ft. deep shaft was excavated on this iron formation occurrence. Exploration continued until 1923. In 1961, Big Dyke's company charter was cancelled. Between 1961 and 1980 the claims changed ownership several times. In 1980, the mineral rights were transferred from Woordrow Wilson to Mr. Bruno Vatri. In 1980, Thomas Skimming and Associates Ltd. prospected the Big Dyke property verifying the presence of gold mineralization in iron formation and in quartz-carbonate-fuchsite rock in June 1980. In August and September, 1981, McGill Exploration Limited on behalf of Thomas Skimming and Associates Ltd. carried out a program of line cutting, ground magnetometer and electromagnetic surveys, prospecting, and geological mapping. This work was financed by Vatco Exploration Inc. In June, 1983, Vatco completed a B-horizon soil geochem survey and further prospecting on a selected portion of the claims. 1991 Property staked by R. Collins and K. Lapierre with follow-up prospecting, stripping/washing/mapping/sampling and assaying.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (G Seim) - This occurrence consists of a partially sulphidized jasperoidal iron formation within a thick succession of pillowed, mafic, calc-alkaline flows. The iron formation strikes NNE and has been traced intermittently in outcrop for more than 1 KM and has a width up to 60 m. To the east of the occurrence, the Burrows Benedict Fault trends NNW. Collins and Lapierre stripped and washed an area 170 ft. by 10 ft. exposing the iron formation and the footwall and hanging wall intermediated volcanic wall rock. Their description follows: (quote) The trench exposed a variable trending, variable south dipping 20 ft. wide moderately contorted magnetite-silica banded, oxidized, weathered, sulphide-rich iron formation. Mineralization consisted of local concentrations of fine- to coarse-grained, subhedra, disseminated pyrite proximal to and at the hanging wall and footwall contacts. Both footwall and hanging wall contacts consisted of a fine-grained, green, carbonatized, locally foliated, non-mineralized intermediate volcanic. Stratigraphic displacement in the order of 5 ft. was exposed in the main trench. The iron formation was then intruded by north-south trending, fine-grained, mafic dikes and non-mineralized quartz veins (unquote). Gold mineralization within the iron formation is apparently associated with the pyrite mineralization. The higher the pyrite content, the higher the gold value.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (G Seim) - Vatco Exploration reported values in the iron formation from 0.002 opt Au up to 0.23 and 0.30 opt Au. Collins and Lapierre reported values of up to 0.032 opt Au for grab samples taken from their trench and values ranging from 0.030 to 0.274 opt Au for sample taken from the muck pile from the 80 ft. shaft. They also report a value of 0.092 opt Au from a trench located about 240 m south of the main trench.
