Point Location Description: Trench # 3 on the Big Dyke Extension property as shown on the geology map in T-3673

Location Method: Based on Assessment

Access Description: A gravel road leads south from the community of houses to the west of the Buffalo Ankerite mine. About 1 km south of the community, a secondary road leads east to the Powell prospect. Just before the Powell prospect stripped area, a brush road leads south to the Big Dyke Extension property with a winter road providing walkable passage to the north boundary of the claim group.

Exploration History

In 1994, J. Grant and Y. Collin conducted an OPAP funded program on a group of claims known as the Big Dyke Extension property. The work program included geological mapping, magnetometer and VLF surveys and the excavation, washing, mapping and sampling of 5 trenches. Samples from trenches 3, 4 and 5 returned occurrence grade gold values.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (G Seim) - This occurrence is contained within mafic to intermediate, calc-alkaline mafic metavolcanic flows. Mapping by J.Grant in 1994 found the volcanic rock varied in composition from basalt to andesitic basalt from the northwest to the southeast. Trench #3 is located within the area of andesitic basalt. J. Grant reported that Trench #3 was excavated to test a magnetic high. Prospecting of the area noted heavy iron staining and abundant quartz veining in the area with abundant sulphide stringers and veinlets. Several areas of chalcopyrite smears were also noted. The trench exposed carbonatized andesitic basalt and a 60 cm to 1 m wide dike of ultramafic rock. Abundant north-striking, vertically dipping quartz veins cut the volcainc rock and vary in width up to 45 cm. The quartz veins appeared to be barren of sulphides, but the wall rock to the veins contained sulphide. J. Grant reported anayltical results for 7 grab samples. Gold values ranged from 83 ppb in quartz to 1335 ppb in a sample of mafic metavolcanic rock off the north end of the same quartz vein.
