Exploration History

Exploration of the Jodelo appears to have started around 1922. A shaft, 25 ft deep, was sunk at some point in time. Porcupine Triumph Gold Mines Ltd. was incorporated in July 1936 and work in a 2-compartment inclined (-78 degrees) shaft commence in December. 11 ddh were completed. 1937 shaft completed to a depth of 100 ft. Up to 5 ddh were completed on surface. 1938 Jodelo Gold Mines Ltd incorporated in May and acquired Porcupine Triumph property. Starting March 15 1930, shaft was dewatered, and sunk an additional 15 ft. A level was cut at 100 ft. and drifting was completed to the east and west totaling 80 ft. 400 tons of ore was hoisted. Work ceased on September 15th. 1940 Shaft deepened to 350 ft. with levels established at 250 and 350 ft., 272 ft of additional drifting was completed on the 100 ft level. 2 ddh were completed on surface and 2 holes were drilled underground. 1944-1946 property held by Minrock Mines Ltd. 1946-1965 Shaftore Porcupine Mines Ltd. 1965-1992 Odyssey Explorations with Harold Fishleigh and John Cragg. In 1981, an evaluation of the property was completed by Pamour Porcupine Mines Ltd. 1992 Jeff Ward and Dave Skelton to Syndicate 92 to conduct OPAP program consisting of geological mapping, stripping, trenching, and sampling and VLF and magnetometer surveys.

Geology Comments

Dec 06, 2006 (G Seim) - The following are excerpts from a 1941 report by H Thomson Leslie, B.Sc., E.M. found in T-754. (quote) On claim P-8125 of the Jodelo Property Keewatin Lavas, serpentine and both granitic and quartz porphyries are repesented. The shaft has been sunk on a shear zone mainly situated on the contact between Keewatin diorites and porphyry striking East to West. Development on the 100 ft level shows that a distinct fault plane lies in the center of the shear zone, and for the most part represents the contact between the Keewatin and porphyry. Irregular masses and veinlets of quartz occur throughout the shear zone and for a considerable distance along the fault plane a quartz vein of variable width is located. In places much carbonatization has occurred and at times showing considerable green carbonate locally called Mariposite. (unquote) (Leslie further points out that a regional scale fold closes around the shaft.) The zone is made up of sheared and carbonatized porphyry, greenstone, chloritic schist, quartz diorite and quartz. The quartz occurs in masses and irregular veinlets. Both the quartz and the sheared material along the fault are mineralized with pyrite and minor amounts of chalcopyrite and galena. The latter appears to be a good indicator of gold values which are reportedly erratic in the present workings.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 06, 2006 (G Seim) - Gold is reported to be erratically distributed at the Jodelo. Gold is found with a quartz-suphide vein. The sulphides include pyrite, chalcopyrite and galena. Samples rich in chalcopyrite and galena yielded values up to $200 per ton in gold whereas samples rich in pyrite and no chalcopyrite or galena yielded values up to $92.00. Surface sampling completed in 1992 confirmed the erratic distribution of gold at the Jodelo. Assays of dump rock ranges up to 4.606 opt gold, but many of the grab and most of the chips samples taken from outcrop returned less than 0.10 opt Au. The best value from chip sampling was 3832 ppb Au over 5.0 ft.
