Exploration History

From T-1563 by J. Perry, CaNiCo Circa 1911 - Patented Claims HS 1036 to HS 1039 owned by Bartrum, Wadsworth and Sherry. A report by consulting engineer, A. Seymor, surface trenching near the southern boundary of HS1036 indicated gold mineralization. A sketch of the showing outlines 2 zones 26 and 36 feet long, 70 ft apart which carry good gold values. A pit, shaft and a surface building is also shown in the sketch. At some time later, (1938?) a second shaft and a considerable amount of trenching was completed in the NE corner of HS1036. Grab sample values of 0.06 opt Au were reported in vein material collected from the dump in 1938. H.D. Carlson (1967) reports that the sketch referred to in J. Perry's report showed an east-striking shear zone 40 ft. wide developed by one pit and 2 trenched over a strike length of 150 ft. and a 50 ft. shaft. The west trench showed an average of 2.2 ounces of gold per ton across 26 ft., the center section of the outcrop showed 1.1 ounces of gold per ton across 36 ft. and the pit at the east end of the outcrop showed abundant free gold. In 1975, the Canadian Nickel Company optioned a claim group from H.D. Carlson, Merry and Campbell completed an exploration program consisting of geological mapping, sampling and a magnetometer survey. Carlson had completed magnetometer and VLF surveys on claims located immediately to the west of HS 1036 and HS 1039.
