Lithology Comments

Feb 15, 2019 (Sheree Hinz) - Chrysotile asbestos occurs in serpentinized dunite and peridotite in the basal part of a differentiated sill or flow. The ultramafic body is at least 4 km long and 800 m thick (Carlson, 1967) and may be longer. The upper differentiate consist of layers of gabbro and pyroxenite that in total are about 20 m thick in the area most highly mineralized with asbestos on the Daffodil property, but about 1.5 km to the north, these layers are more than 100 m thick. There is no hyaloclastite or spinifex at the contact between the host pillowed basalts and upper differentiates where this contact is exposed. The Daffodil sill and host volcanic rocks strike northerly and dip 70-85 E. No significant small scale folding is evident and the metamorphic grade is greenschist.

Mineralization Comments

Feb 15, 2019 (G Seim) - Information on grade and tonnage of this deposit is from an unpublished report by W.J. Mullins of Watts, Griffis, and MCQuat Limited, which stated that mapping and drilling indicated at least five fiber zones almost exclusively on 2 mining claims. Two of the zones have indicated lengths of 1100 feet of more and widths of 270 feet or more and all are open on strike both to the north and south. In an area 2000 ft. by 2000 ft. the ratio of ore to waste is estimated at 3 to 1. Within this area, the two principal zones to a depth of 500 ft. have an inferred reserve of 20 million tons. An average grade of 3.23 percent fiber yield is estimated. There are no actual tests from core samples but three bulk samples from surface were tested by Canadian Johns-Mainville Company Limited and an average of 5.35% fiber was recovered and valued at $15.70 per ton of ore (1974 prices).
