Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Recent mapping by the Ontario Geological Survey suggests that the outcrops originally identified as iron formation in the 1920's are metamorphosed gabbroic and dioritic dikes or ultramafic rocks. Descripitons by Hawley and Carlson suggeest that the rocks are hematized and are interbedded with mafic metavolcanic rocks. Locally, drag-folded chert bands are found with brecciated iron formation. Mapping by Amax describes a narrow sequence of cherty sediments, sediment breccia, argillite, graphitic sediments and sulphide as well as oxide facies iron formation.
