Lithology Comments

Dec 08, 2015 (A Wilson) - At hole 87-66, the youngest (uppermost) package extends to a depth of 25.6 m and consists of varved clay and silt, deposited in proglacial lakes Barlow and Ojibvay, overlying a 13.4 m thick unit of subglacial till. Till of this package was deposited from ice which advanced toward 170º azimuth. At the top of the "middle" glacial package is a unit of laminated clay and silt. These glaciolacustrine sediments are extremely dense and the laminae are contorted, having been overconsolidated by the overriding ice associated with the upper glacial package. Within the glaciolacustrine sediments is an interval (27.1-30.2 m) of gritty, sandy silt(till ?) deposited into a proglacial lake. Beneath the glaciolacustrine sediments are interbedded sand and till (31.1-39.0 m) deposited in close proximity to the ice margin. Till in the interval 39.0-40.2 m may have been deposited beneath the ice sheet. The uppermost till unit of the "middle" package at this hole and at holes 87-68 and 87-69 have similar chemical values. The till unit at 40.2-41.8 m may be the base unit of the "middle" package, or alternatively, the top of the "lowest" glacial package. The stratigraphy of the hole, with a gradational contact between till units at 40.2 m and a sharp contact at 41.8 m, indicates the "middle" package extends to 41.8m. This interpretation is also indicated by till matrix carbonate data, gold grain counts, and some elements in the "H" fraction chemistry data.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 08, 2015 (A Wilson) - The following chemistry values are noted. Sample 19 has an "H" fraction Au value of 6700 ppb, reflecting the presence of 11 gold grains. One gold grain measured 400 x 600 microns and four of the grains had either irregular or delicate shapes. In the "H" fraction, sample 17 has highly anomalous values for As (2700 ppm) and Sb (6.1 ppm). Sample 19 has elevated or anomalous "H" fraction values for As, Sb, Cu and V.
