Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Abitibi

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Abitibi

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Dec 01, 2015 (C Salo) - Geological mapping indicates that sparsely exposed bedrock in the area consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) volcanic rocks and interflow sediments of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group. A recent geophysical survey of the area detected numerous anomalous bedrock conductors on the former Seaway Copper Mines Ltd. claims.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Mudstone 1 Graphitic Argillite Host
Intermediate lava flow-unsubdivided 2 Intermediate To Felsic Footwall
Feldspar Porphyry 3 Feldspar Near
Schist-Unsubdivided 4 Sericitic Host

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Wilson) - Diamond drilling completed by Seaway Copper intersected a sequence of slate (argillite) containing disseminated sulphides, intermediate to felsic tuffs or flows and feldspar porphyry intrusions. The argillite is logged as slate in most cases. In later drill holes, the intermediate to felsic tuffs are described as sericitic schists.

Dec 01, 2015 (C Salo) - Grey and weakly sericitic stretched feldspar porphyry clasts, tan and grey chert, and pyrite clasts which are reported to be associated with (hosted by?) mafic to intermediate lapilli tuff.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 01, 2015 (A Wilson) - Grab samples collected by Erie Canadian Mines from a stripped area in Sheraton Tp. returned assays of $2.40 Au over 0.8 ft and $4.40 Au. A grab sample collected by the OGS in 1940, from quartz stringers and mineralized wall rock, returned an assay of 0.32 oz./t Au. A 42 ft section of Selco drill core, assayed by Seaway Copper reportedly assayed 3.02% Zn and 0.26% Pb. Assays returned from Unigold's drill program included:(DDH UB-87-3) 2940 ppm Pb and 8400 ppm Zn over 1.2 m, 23000 ppm Pb and 2450 ppm Zn over 1.5 m; (DDH UP-87-1-2 7600 ppm Pb and 4200 ppm Zn over 1.4 m, 7250 ppm Pb and 7100 ppm Zn over 1.5 m; (DDH UB-87-2) 4500 ppm Pb and 15000 ppm Zn over 1.4 m, 3650 ppm Pb and 9500 ppm Zn over 0.9 m, 4100 ppm Pb and 14500 ppm Zn over 0.8 m, 1930 ppm Pb and 12700 ppm Zn over 1.6 m.

Dec 01, 2015 (C Salo) - Sphalerite and galena are reported to occur as irregularly developed fine fracture fillings. The best assays reported from diamond drilling are from a 42 foot long intersection which averaged 3.02% of zinc and 0.26% of lead. A selected grab sample of stripped and trenched bedrock is reported to have averaged 0.32 ounce of gold per ton.
