Exploration History

1947- 1948: Wright-Hargreaves Mines Ltd. diamond drilled 10 stratigraphic holes totalling 8,712 feet 1981- 1983: Nahanni Mines Ltd. and Redstone Resources Inc. completed magnetic, VLF and HL electromagnetic surveys, and overburden drilled. Some of this work was on ground formerly held by Wright-Hargreaves Mines. Nahanni Mines diamond drilled a single hole totalling 1,178 feet during 1983 1985: Noranda Exploration Co. Ltd. completed magnetic and VLF electromagnetic surveys 1988: Lacana Mining Corp. diamond drilled 5 holes totalling 4,166 feet on ground formerly held by Wright-Hargreaves Mines.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Recent geophysical surveys (OGS 1984; assessment files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake) and exploration overburden and bedrock diamond drilling (assessment files) indicate that bedrock in southern Michaud Township consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies except marginal to large felsic intrusive bodies, where contact metamorphic aureoles of amphibolite grade may be developed) volcanic and sedimentary rock and mafic to felsic intrusive bodies near the east striking Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone (PDFZ). North of the PDFZ, bedrock consists mainly of (weakly metamorphosed) east striking, steeply dipping, and north facing mafic to ultramafic volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group. South of the PDFZ, bedrock consists mainly of (weakly metamorphosed) east striking, steeply south dipping, and south facing tholeiitic volcanic rock and interflow sediment of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group. The PDFZ itself is a largely glacial drift covered (Baker et al. 1980; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; Steele 1988) east striking domain which, elsewhere along its length, is known to be lithologically heterogeneous and structurally complex.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Diamond drilling near the PDFZ by both Wright-Hargreaves Mines and Lacana Mining yielded anomalous (ranging from 0.01 to 0.10 ounce of gold per ton) gold tenors within narrow (less than 2 m long) core intersections of variably altered volcanic, sedimentary, and felsic intrusive rocks. Jensen and Baker (1986) and Johnstone and Steele (1989) indicated that this drilling is probably north of the PDFZ and, therefore, the gold mineralization is hosted by volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Stoughton-Roquemaure Group or intercalated sediments of the (Archean) Porcupine Group and younger felsic intrusive bodies. Alteration minerals noted in the diamond drill logs to be associated (both directly and indirectly) with the auriferous intersections are listed below. The presence of talc suggests that ultramafic protolith may have originally constituted at least some of the Wright-Hargreaves Mines occurrence host lithology, and supports the interpretation of Jensen and Baker (1986) and Johnstone and Steele (1989) that the PDFZ is south of and/or beneath the drill hole collars.
