Exploration History

Pre-1947: Drilling by unknown parties was completed on patented claim no. 36779, the northwest quarter of the south half of lot 5, concession II, Guibord Township (Prest 1953). 1953: Visible gold was noted; the property was controlled by Gui-Por Gold Mines Ltd. (Prest 1953). 1972: Gui-Por Uranium Mines and Metals Ltd. controlled 17 claims in Guibord Township, presumably including claim no. 36779 (Canadian Mines Handbook 1972-1973). 1975: Gui-Por Uranium Mines and Metals was acquired by Indian Mountain Metal Mines Ltd. (Canadian Mines Handbook 1974- 1975). 1981: Indian Mountain Metal Mines amalgamated with Initiative Explorations to form Initiative Explorations Inc. (Canadian Mines Handbook 1981-82). 1987: United Reef Petroleums Ltd. optioned the 17 claim Guibord Township property (presumably including patented claim no. 36779) from Initiative Explorations Inc. United Reef was reported (The Northern Miner, May 11, 1987) to have budgeted $220,000 to used for exploration during 1987.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Prest (1953) reported that: ...Outcrops on patented claim L.36,779...include andesitic volcanics, granite, syenite, and carbonate rocks. Gui-Por did not drill on this claim, but the carbonate rock zone along the northeast side of the outcrops has been drilled in former years. The results of this drilling, however, are not known to the writer. Visible gold was found in two places in this carbonate rock, but apparently its occurrence is very sporadic.. (p.50) Jensen (1985, 1989), Jensen and Baker (1986), and Johnstone and Steele (1989) interpreted the wholly glacial drift covered (Baker et al. 1980; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; Steele 1988) Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone to occur a few hundred metres south of this occurrence, an interpretation that differs from that of Prest (1953). Geological mapping by the workers cited above and by Jensen and Langford (1985) and Troop (1989) indicate that the supracrustal bedrock assemblage in the occurrence area consists of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic grade except marginal to large felsic intrusive bodies, where contact metamorphic aureoles of amphibolite grade may be developed) volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group.
