Geology

Province: Superior

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Near the occurrence, felsic bodies and dikes intrude variably glacial drift covered (Baker et al. 1980; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; Steele 1988) weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) mafic to ultramafic volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group several hundred metres north of the interpreted location of the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone (Jensen 1985, 1989). Jensen (1985, 1989) and Prest (1953) interpret the location of the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone differently.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Fine to medium grained (weakly metamorphosed) greywacke containing 1-2% of very fine grained disseminated pyrite.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Falconbridge diamond drill hole no. 693-01 yielded a 5.0 foot core length which averaged 0.016 ounce of gold per ton and a 4.5 foot core length which averaged 0.018 ounce of gold per ton. These anomalous gold tenors occurred within fine to medium grained (weakly metamorphosed) greywacke containing 1-2% of very fine grained disseminated pyrite. The greywacke occurs as narrow horizons within sheared talc-chlorate-carbonate rock which is probably part of the Porcupine-Destor Complex of Jensen and Langford (1985) (i.e. this occurrence is likely within the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone).

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Sheared talc-chlorate-carbonate rock.
