Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Abitibi

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Abitibi

Tectonic Assemblage: Blake River

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Apr 22, 2016 (C Salo) - Geological mapping indicates that the area is underlain mainly by sparsely exposed weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) tholeiitic volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group which strike east, dip steeply, and face south. The occurrence is several hundred metres south of the interpreted location of the Porcupine- Destor Fault Zone.

Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Intermediate Lapilli-Tuff 1 Lapilli Tuff Pink Carbonate Alteration, Pyroclastic Host
Diabase 2 Diabase Intrudes
Syenite 3 Intrudes

Lithology Comments

Apr 22, 2016 (A Wilson) - The main unit, andesite pyroclastics, is a distinctive lapilli tuff characterized by white euhedral to anhedral feldspar grains with subordinate lithic fragments of andesite pumice and very rare exotic fragments of cherty sulphides. A diabase dike and a syenite dike cut the stratigraphy but gold mineralization is not associated with them.

Mineralization Comments

Apr 22, 2016 (A Wilson) - The absolute value of gold obtained in all overburden samples is very much higher than expected with a mean for 752 samples of 471 ppb as compared to approximately 10 ppb for the Timmins area. The discovery of felsic tuffs and hematite quartz-carbonate alteration in PR83-03 indicates the geological environment is similar to that at the Ross Mine. Anomalous gold assays of 1090 ppb (0.032 oz/ton) Au from 124-125m, 580ppb Au from 132-133m, 305ppb Au from 155-156m and 447ppb Au from 177.6 to 180m,

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Diamond drilling by St. Joe Canada yielded brecciated pink carbonate containing 20% of pyrite which averaged as much as 1,090 ppb of gold over a 1 metre sampling length.
