Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Type: Regional

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (A Mitchell) - The bedrock in the area consists mainly of sparsely exposed weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) ultramafic to mafic volcanic rocks of the Stoughton-Roquemaure Group which strike northeast, dip steeply, and face northeast. A large felsic body intrudes the volcanic rocks several hundred metres northeast of the occurrence. The Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone is several hundred metres southwest of the occurrence. A gold assay of 0.05 OPT from a 1.4 foot core length of 'silicified, brecciated and weakly magnetic andesite' (probably Mg-tholeitic basalt) containing 5-10% of pyrite is reported (assessment files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake) to have been obtained from Armco Mineral Exploration Ltd. drill hole no. AK-7.
