Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Abitibi

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Abitibi

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Apr 12, 2016 (C Salo) - Geological mapping indicates that bedrock in the area consists mainly of variably glacial drift covered weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies except marginal to felsic intrusive bodies where amphibolitic grade contact metamorphic aureoles may be developed) volcanic and interflow sedimentary rocks of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group. Intrusive felsic bodies, some of which are of trondhjemitic composition, occur in the area. The Canadian Arrow Mine is hosted by one such trondhjemitic intrusive body.

Lithology Comments

Apr 12, 2016 (A Wilson) - The zone, which is apparently about 100 feet wide, lies in greenstone immediately north of a mass of syenite porphyry and extends across the north part of the three claims mentioned above.Near the centre of the three claims the zone is covered by a swampy area approximately 900 feet long and shorter lengths of swamp oocur at each end. Within this contact zone the greenstone is much broken and disturbed and contains several heavy shearings. The rock is generally well altered and much vein material is found usually in irregular patches. Sulphide mineralization, for the most, part pyrite, while sometimes heavy, is not uniform in distribution but occurs much more plentifully in some places than in others. Some samples taken from very heavily mineralized sections failed to assay over 0.40 oz/per ton. Vein alteration is for the most part to carbonate schist but some silicification was noticed close to the syenite porphyry contact. The zone contains some stringers and masses of white quartz, one consistent rib of quartz at the west end is up to 1 foot wide. The quartz vein strikes N20W dips 70º E.

Mineralization Comments

Apr 12, 2016 (A Wilson) - Assays from the quartz veins range from $0.40 Au over 36 inches to $6.40 over 42 inches. Samples from trenches returned value sranging from 0.03 oz/t Au to 0.12 oz/t Au.

Apr 12, 2016 (C Salo) - Numerous 3-10 foot wide quartz veins and stringer systems which strike 340º and dip east 70º are reported to occur east of the Canadian Arrow Mine in the south half of lot 11, concession1, Hislop Township. Some of these are known to extend as much as 400 feet along strike. Some veins have dark quartz centres, white quartz margins, may contain pyrite, and have developed around them variably pyritic halos. Locally developed shear systems and faults with limited associated apparent horizontal displacement of unspecified sense are reported to be orientated parallel to the quartz veins. Numerous grab and chip samples are reported (assessment files) to have yielded gold assays ranging from 0.01 to 0.14 oz/t Au.
