Location Method: Data Compilation

Access Description: A point 1.70 km north and 4.40 km east of the southwest corner of Hislop Township. Access is provided via a north trending dirt road which intersects Highway 11 at the Hislop/Playfair Township common boundary, about 2.6 km northwest of the Highway 572 turnoff to Holtyre. Outcrop on the property occurs immediately west of a narrow gravel pit access road which joins the north trending dirt road about 1.6 km north of Highway 11.

Exploration History

Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Abitibi

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Abitibi

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Apr 15, 2016 (C Salo) - Bedrock on the property consists of sparsely exposed weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) steeply dipping, northeast striking, and southeast facing basalt and interflow sedimentary rock of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group. A single narrow north striking (Proterozoic) Matachewan diabase dike is exposed intermittently along the western outcrop exposures. A recent geophysical survey of Hislop Township failed to detect any significant bedrock conductors on the property. Airborne magnetic and electromagnetic surveys of Hislop Township indicate that anomalously high resistivity and (weakly) anomalously low in-line/in-phase apparent very low frequency electromagnetic values occur on the property. The latter of these anomalies may be caused by the north striking Matachewan diabase dike.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - AB-85-209: Trench chip. 0.3 cm wide quartz-carbonate veinlet located at the southern basalt/chert contact exposed in the trench. AB-85-212: Trench chip, discovery gossan. Rusty and gossanous weathering fine grained grey chert cut by fine rusty weathering fractures. Less than 3% of fine grained weathered sulfides. 1 mm wide quartz-calcite-Fe-dolomite veinlets occur but are devoid of sulfide mineralization. Where the veinlets are Fe-dolomite bearing they have dolomitic margins and quartz-calcite cores. AB-85-214: Outcrop chip. Rusty weathering pervasively carbonatized (calcite) pyritic tuff(?) containing 1-3 mm size angular black clasts (formerly mafic phenocrysts?) supported by a fine grained, recrystallized grey matrix. 1-4 mm wide white quartz-calcite-Fe-dolomite-feldspar veinlets are present. The sample contains 1-3% of fine grained disseminated pyrite. Thin section viewing indicates that this sample is pervasively carbonatized and that veinlets contain turbid feldspars. AB-85-217: Trench chip. Incipiently amphibolitized dark grey, amygdaloidal non magnetic basalt. AB-85-218: Trench chip. Carbonatized (calcite) amygdaloidal basalt hosting a pyrite-quartz-sericitic domain. This sample probably represents a recrystallized cherty interflow domain. AB-85-221: Trench chip. Fine grained equigranular dark grey slightly magnetic amphibolitic basalt. AB-85-226: Trench chip. Medium grained, white quartz vein material containing less than 1% of very fine grained pyrite hosted by sheared mafic breccia or tuff. Note rusty weathering halo developed marginal to the vein. AB-85-227: Outcrop chip. Rusty weathering sheared basalt. Chip sample over 20 cm. AB-85-228: Outcrop chip. 1.5 cm wide milky white quartz-carbonate veinlet hosted by spongy, gossanous, and altered (buff colored) material. 3% of sulfides.

Mineralization Comments

Apr 15, 2016 (A Wilson) - The only assays from the drill hole yielded values of between 3 and 6 ppb Au.

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - In 1985, about 250 m north and slightly east of exposed outcrop hosting the quartz stringers, discovery of bedrock gossan beneath a thin cover of sand and till prompted a limited program of mechanical and pneumatic overburden stripping. The stripping is confined to a 25 m long trench which exposes a 2 m thick fine grained finely laminated grey interflow chert horizon which strikes 074 and which displays a locally developed internal shear fabric and a 65 degree north dipping contact with the sheared top of the underlying basalt flow to the north. Discontinuous narrow (less than 3 cm wide) and locally weakly pyritic quartz stringers striking subparallel to flow contacts in sheared basalt or basaltic breccia are also exposed in the trench. Of 21 bedrock samples from the trench which were assayed, the only sample (AB-85-210) returning greater than 30 ppb of gold was a chip sample of brecciated cherty sediment containing 3% of fracture controlled very fine grained pyrite; this sample assayed 1060 ppb of gold. On the basis of this anomalous gold assay, a single 167 foot (50.9 m) hole at azimuth 167, dip 45 degrees was diamond drilled to test the interflow horizon at depth. The interflow horizon exposed by the trench on surface was intersected by this hole at a vertical depth of about 37 m, where the horizon is represented by a narrow (about 0.8 m apparent thickness) unit of pyritic crystal tuff which returned a nil assay value for gold.
