Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Abitibi

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Abitibi

Geological Age: Mesoarchean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Dec 14, 2015 (R Degagne) - Geological mapping indicates that the area is underlain mainly by weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic grade) tholeiitic volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group. The area in which the veins are reported to occur is several hundred metres northeast of a felsic batholith of alkalic to subalkalic affinity. Numerous diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm intrude the Kinojevis Group rocks in the area. Proximity to the batholith likely indicates that some bedrock in the area has been subjected to contact metamorphic conditions of amphibolite grade.
