Point Location Description: Pit
Location Method: Data Compilation
Access Description: A point 2.20 km north and 3.83 km west of the southeast corner of Bowman Township. From Matheson, the pitted outcrop may be reached by following southward the gravel road located between lots 4 and 5, Bowman Township. The outcrop on which the pit has been blasted is on the west side of the road about 2.9 km south of the intersection with the gravel road located on the concession III/IV common boundary.
A pit is in the west half of the south half of lot 5 concession 2, Bowman Township, on patented claims. No assessment work pertaining to the pitted outcrop area is on file in the assessment files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake. In 1962-1963, the pit was located but not described. 1976: Ingamar Exploration Co. Ltd. - airborne radiometric survey west and north of the pitted outcrop

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist
Dec 14, 2015 (C Salo) - Bedrock consists mainly of southeast striking, subvertically dipping, and southwest facing weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) tholeiitic mafic and intermediate volcanic rocks of the (Archean) kinojevis Group. A swarm of narrow, north northwest striking (Proterozoic) Matachewan diabase dikes intrudes the volcanic rocks near the pit and a granitic batholith is about 1,200 m to the southwest. A recent geophysical survey failed to detect any significant bedrock conductors near the pit.

Dec 14, 2015 (A Wilson) - A 2 by 3 by 1 m deep pit has been blasted into massive 1-3 mm grained Fe-tholeiitic basalt. The western pit wall is sheared, with shearing striking 020º and dipping steeply east. A small muck pile adjacent to the pit contains fragments of quartz vein material with associated pyrite which is hosted by fine grained amphibolitized basalt. Quartz veins and stringers in the muck pile are 2-6 cm wide.

Dec 14, 2015 (C Salo) - Sulfide mineralization occurs as 1-10 mm disseminated pyrite cubes marginal to veins in the amphibolitized basalt and as irregular pyrite clots within veins. Some basalt samples in the muck pile contain brick red feldspar. The muck pile also contains scant, 1 mm grained pink felsic material. The amphibolitized basalt marginal to the quartz veins is pervasively dolomitized. Pitted quartz veins are hosted by a narrow shear developed in a small (dimensions on the order of tens of metres) basalt block which is surrounded by north northwest striking Matachewan diabase dike material. The basalt has been amphibolitized (hornblende) and mildly pervasively carbonatized (dolomite) and contains minor late calcite filled fractures. Red feldspar development in the basalt, fine grained felsic material associated with the quartz veins, and quartz veins containing coarse grained pyrite devoid of significant gold concentrations are probably the result of contact metamorphic/metasomatic effects resulting from intrusion of the enclosing diabase. Analyses*: Sample AB-87-20: nil Au ppb, 4 As ppm. Sample AB-87-21: nil Au ppb, 9 As ppm. Sample AB-87-22: nil Au ppb, 14 As ppm.
