Subprovince: Abitibi
Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi
Belt: Abitibi
Geological Age: Archean
Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist
Apr 20, 2016 (C Salo) - Geological mapping iindicates that bedrock in the occurrence area consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies except marginal to intrusive bodies, where contact metamorphic aureoles of amphibolite grade may be developed) subaqueously deposited tholeiitic basalt of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group which strikes east northeast, dips steeply, and faces south. The bedrock volcanic stratigraphy occupies part of the north limb of the east striking and east plunging Blake River Synclinorium. Intrusive rocks in the area include alkalic stocks and dikes and narrow (generally tens of metres in width) diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm. A recent geophysical survey of Playfair Township failed to detect any significant bedrock conductors in the occurrence area.

Apr 20, 2016 (C Salo) - Wright described the occurrence to consist of a system of 3 east striking and subvertically dipping quartz-calcite- pyrite-chalcopyrite-molybdenite veins which are hosted by coarse grained biotite hornblende albite syenite which is intruded by pink syenite dikes. A 4 foot long chip sample taken by Wright from this vein system is reported by him to have averaged $60 in gold (about 2.9 ounces of gold per ton) and 9 ounces of silver per ton; a second sample obtained by Wright, however, ...did not give such encouraging results. A northeast striking and northwest 45 degrees dipping quartz-magnetite vein in the area is reported by Wright to be oriented parallel pink syenite dikes and to intersect the auriferous vein system; no assays from this northeast striking vein are reported, although Wright described it to be barren. The high gold assay obtained by Wright and the erratic nature of the gold mineralization suggest that gold here occurs in the native state. Future sampling of veins in the area should utilize pulp and metallic or analogous analytical procedures which are designed to minimize the nugget effect and provide representative gold assay data.
