Geology Comments

Dec 15, 2015 (R Degagne) - Geological mapping indicates that bedrock in the area consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) intermediate to mafic subaqueously deposited tholeiitic volcanic rocks and minor intercalated interflow tuffaceous and/or sedimentary rocks of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group. Local bedrock stratigraphy is east southeast striking, steeply dipping, south facing, and occupies part of the north limb of the east striking and east plunging Blake River Synclinorium. Intrusive rocks near the sulfide occurrence include a felsic granodioritic batholith (the northern contact of which is about 1.2 km southwest of the trenches) and ubiquitous narrow (generally tens of metres in width) north northeast striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm, which intrude both Kinojevis Group rocks and the felsic batholith. A recent geophysical survey of Bowman Township failed to detect any significant bedrock conductors to occur in the area of known sulfide mineralization.

Lithology Comments

Dec 15, 2015 (R Degagne) - Information in the assessment files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake; in Shklanka; in Bath; and in Leahy indicates that in the southeast quarter of the north half of lot 7, concession 2, Bowman Township, a series of pits exposes splashes of massive chalcopyrite hosted by a conformable horizon of grey feldspar porphyry. Geological mapping by Driftex Ltd. (assessment files) indicates that the porphyry is mappable along 1,800 feet of strike, that it ranges from 20-100 feet in thickness, and that it is a conformable tuffaceous horizon which strikes 105 and dips 80 degrees north (contrary to well established regional trends as delineated by Leahy and Jensen. Sulphide mineralization is described to consist of disseminated chalcopyrite splashes and sphalerite in the feldspar tuff; of stringers and disseminations of chalcopyrite, sphalerite and galena along bedding planes and confined to fractures within thinly bedded tuff near the southern tuff contact; and of as much as 25% of nodular pyrite in tuff.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 15, 2015 (A Wilson) - A 6.9 foot long trench chip sample collected by Sylvanite Gold Mines Ltd. is reported to have averaged 1.8% copper, another chip sample is reported to have averaged 0.6% copper along 5.6 feet and additional (grab?) samples assaying as much as 11.42% copper, 6.21% lead, 4.31% zinc and 0.6 ounce of silver per ton are reported. One diamond drill hole is reported to have intersected material which averaged 0.5% copper along a 4 foot core length. The Devil’s Elbow drilling reportedly intersected a 10 and 2 foot core length each of which averaged 0.5% copper, with additional associated anomalously elevated lead, zinc and silver values. A 2 foot section of a 10 foot core section is reported to have averaged 1.17% Zn, 0.65% Pb and 0.40% Cu. A 6 ft. section of core from DDH 1 assayed Cu 0.25% Pb 0.43%, Zn 0.84% over a core length of 6.0 feet. Samples collected by Sylvanite Gold Mines Ltd. returned Cu values ranging from 0.36% to 2.73%. Lead values ranged from 0.07 to 1.09% Pb.

Mineralization exposed in a shallow trench blasted into bedrock near the north edge of an outcrop mass in the north half of lot 7, concession 2, Bowman Township (as indicated by Leahy; and Jensen) consists of variably sheared pyritic and pyrrhotitic(?) chlorite-amphibole-carbonate schist. The 2 m wide rusty weathering schist strikes 100º , dips irregularly north at an average angle of about 55º. Angular, brecciated pyrrhotite(?) and fine grained disseminated to 2 cm size idioblastic pyrite cubes occur within the chlorite- carbonate schist and within an undulose, marginal, and less intensely sheared 25-35 cm wide zone of Fe-dolomitized leucoxenitic basalt (to the north) and wacke (to the south).

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Degagne) - Samples: AB-86-215: Outcrop chip from basalt flow underlying (north of) chlorite schist. Olive green, rusty weathering, magnetic fine grained basalt. Less than 1 mm grained, this sample has been pervasively Fe- dolomitized and displays leucoxene replacing magnetite. Calcite alteration is preferentially associated with leucoxene development. The sample contains 5% of disseminated pyrite blebs. AB-86-219: Outcrop chip obtained from near the stratigraphic top (southern contact) of the chlorite schist. Rusty weathering, weakly magnetic fine grained tuff similar to sample AB-86-218. This sample has been variably calcite and Fe-dolomite altered and consists of larger and more abundant peach-colored leucocratic (feldspathic) domains than does sample AB-86-218. 30-40% of recrystallized poikilitic idioblastic pyrite is present. Note that leucoxene specks occur in both the leucocratic felsic domains and in the melanocratic amphibolitized chloritic domains.
