Geology Comments

Dec 14, 2015 (R Degagne) - Bedrock strikes east, dips steeply, faces south, and forms part of the north limb of the east striking and east plunging Blake River Synclinorium. Intrusive rocks in the area include felsic stocks and batholiths (the nearest of which is about 1.6 km east southeast of the occurrence) and north striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm, which occur within metres of the pitted quartz veins. A recent geophysical survey of Bowman Township failed to detect any significant bedrock conductors to be associated with the pitted quartz-calcite veins.

Lithology Comments

Dec 14, 2015 (R Degagne) - Geological mapping indicates that bedrock in the area consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) tholeiitic volcanic rocks and volumetrically minor interflow sediment of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group. Tholeiitic basalt (samples AB-85-99 and -107a) and a narrow interflow sedimentary horizon (samples AB-85-100 through AB-85- 107b, except AB-85-107a) are intruded by diabase and quartz diabase dikes in an outcrop knob near the southwest corner of lot 2, concession 3, Bowman Township. Cherty siltstones and fine grained wackes here strike 084º, dip steeply, and may be followed discontinuously for several tens of metres before they are intruded by diabase dikes near the east and west limits of the bedrock exposure.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 14, 2015 (A Wilson) - Assays from the sampling completed by Sylvanite returned values ranging from 0.02 oz./t Au to 0.06 oz./t Au. Sampling by the ODM returned values ranging from 0.01 oz./t Au to 0.14 oz./t.

Dec 14, 2015 (R Degagne) - The interflow sediments are variably shattered and fractured and are recemented by quartz-calcite. A shallow pit near the eastern edge of this outcrop has been blasted into narrow (centimetre scale) quartz-albite veinlets hosted by cherty siltstone; these veinlets are of unknown geometry. Veinlet fragments in a small waste pile adjacent to this pit contain pyrite, sphalerite, and galena. No assayed samples obtained by the present writer averaged more than 70 ppb of gold or 103 ppm of copper. The two assayed samples of vein material containing megascopic galena and sphalerite (samples AB-85-106a and 106b) contained a maximum of 3720 ppm Pb and 5030 ppm Zn. Sampling of this outcrop by Leahy is reported by him to have yielded assays as high as 0.04 oz./t Au from an east striking quartz vein. Numerous prospect pits have been blasted into three sets of narrow veins exposed in a large bedrock exposure of tholeiitic basalt intruded by diabase dikes in the north half of lot 2, concession 3, Bowman Township. Leahy produced a sketch map of this outcrop and reported that sampling here completed by Sylvanite Gold Mines Ltd. in 1935 resulted in assays as high as 0.10 oz./t Au. Northeast and northwest striking vein sets consist of white, coarse grained quartz-epidote with only traces of pyrite. The third vein set is east striking (oriented subparallel to volcanic stratigraphy)and appears to be localized along narrow (decimetre scale) cherty interflow sedimentary rocks which are similar in appearance to those sampled by the present writer several hundred metres to the south and which are ubiquitous but discontinuously developed in this area. Leahy reported anomalously elevated gold tenors to be associated with the east striking vein set (sampling by him yielded assay values from these veins as high as 0.14 oz./t Au.

Alteration Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Degagne) - Sampling by the present writer yielded a gold assay of 310 ppb from a quartz-calcite-epidote vein hosted by altered (albitic) basalt (sample AB-85-114a) marginal to an 088 striking and steeply south dipping cherty interflow horizon (sample AB-85- 114b). Anomalously elevated zinc concentrations are also associated with the cherty interflow material here (samples AB- 85-109, 110, and -113).
