Exploration History

1934: Golden Arrow Mining Co.: 1,100' of trenching; DD-1385 ft. of short hole diamond drilling; 1935-1936:Golden Arrow Mining and Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines Ltd.: trenching, sampling, DD-800 ft.; 2 compartment shaft (No. 1 shaft) sunk to 48 ft; headframe erected 1945-47: Golden Arrow Mines Ltd. - DD-61>14,906 ft., sank a vertical 3 compartment shaft 281 ft (No. 2 shaft); 356 ft of drifting; 298 ft crosscutting on this level; No.2 shaft deepened to 148 ft. to 429 ft. level and second level was established at 400 ft.; 1272 ft of drifting and 371ft. of cross-cutting completed; DD-58-3675 ft. 1974: Pamour Porcupine Mines Ltd.- agreed to complete a feasibility study consisting in part of milling a 21,000 ton bulk sample. 1976: Canadian Arrow Mines - DD. 1980-82: Pamour Porcupine Mines Ltd.- acquired the 20 year property lease for six claims, constructed a surface plant, and completed pre-production stripping and development of a 500 ton per day open pit. 1981: 156,202 tons of ore were trucked to the Pamour No.1 mill; this included 13,828 tons of previously stockpiled ore. 1982: 80,100 tons of ore were trucked and 4,075 ounces of gold were recovered for an average recovery grade of 0.051 ounce of gold per ton. Operations were suspended in May, and the pit has been flooding since (The Northern Miner, April 28, 1983) 1985: It was speculated (The Northern Miner, August 8, 1985) that the property might be profitable at a prevailing gold price of $(US)400 per ounce. 1988: Pamour Inc. sold its 46.4% interest in Canadian Arrow Mines Ltd. to First Toronto Capital (The Northern Miner, June 20, 1988). 1996: Canadian Arrow Mines Ltd.: DD-1-150 m to test an IP anomaly about 600 m west of the open pit. Best assays were 2049 ppb Au over 0.16 m and 2411 ppb Au over 0.38 m in trondjhemite. 1997: Inca Mining Corp.- IP, magnetometer, mapping, stripping, sampling, DD-15-2158 m. 2010: Victoria Gold Mines East Timmins Ltd.- obtained permitting and filed a closure plan to extract a bulk sample up to 100 000 t. They started to dewater the pit; project ceased. 2010-2012: Property was optioned to Murgor Resources Inc. Completed 57 diamond drill holes totalling 16 501 m, geophysics, mechanical stripping and sampling and geological mapping.

Tectonic Assemblage: Blake River

Geological Age: Archean

Geology Comments

Apr 07, 2016 (D Guidon) - from Bath (OFR5735) Geological mapping indicates that the mine area is largely glacial drift covered and is underlain mainly by weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies except marginal to intrusive felsic bodies, where contact metamorphic aureoles of amphibolite grade may be developed) tholeiitic basalt and interflow sedimentary deposits of the (Archean) Kinojevis Group which strike east northeast, dip steeply south, face south, and occupy part of the north limb of the east striking and east plunging Blake River Synclinorium. Intrusive rocks in the area include a small felsic trondhjemite stock (with which most of the known gold mineralization is associated), narrow (tens of metres in width) north striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm and narrow (metres in width) lamprophyre dikes. The area was glaciated and is now mantled by variable and often complex thicknesses of glaciofluvial deposits.

Mineralization Comments

Apr 07, 2016 (D Guidon) - from Bath (OFR5735) Bedrock near the open pit consists of uniformly east northeast striking and steeply south dipping massive and pillowed mafic tholeiitic volcanic rocks and volumetrically minor intercalated interflow tuffaceous and chemical sedimentary rocks which have been intruded by a small (about 900 m in diameter) felsic stock of trondhjemitic composition. This felsic stock contains as much as 80% of modal albite, perhaps of sea floor metamorphic (spilitic) origin. Known gold mineralization occurs in two zones. Western zone mineralization consists of quartz stringers hosted by variably recrystallized tholeiitic basalt and tuff marginal to the intrusive stock, and was the focus of early exploration efforts. Eastern zone mineralization consists of gold associated with pyrite developed marginal to quartz- carbonate vein stockworks in distinctively brick potassiumfeldspar- hematite(?) altered trondhjemite near the stock margin. Eastern Zone mineralization occurs about 460 m east of the Western Zone (No.1)shaft and was the focus of open pit mining operations by Pamour Porcupine Mines Ltd.The open pit is developed within miarolitic cavity bearing variably sericitized and locally porphyritic felsic trondhjemite adjacent to the stock's northeastern contact.
