Point Location Description: cluster of drill hole collars

Location Method: Data Compilation

Access Description: Point Located: A point 5.23 km north and 3.96 km west of the southeast corner of Hislop Township. The anomalous gold tenors which constitute the Durham occurrence were encountered via diamond drilling during 1945 on what was then the Durham farm, the south half of lot 5, concession IV, Hislop Township. Access to the area is via all weather lot and concession roads.

Belt: Abitibi

Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Apr 18, 2016 (C Salo) - Geological mapping indicates that the occurrence area is largely glacial drift covered. Bedrock is only very rarely exposed and consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies, except marginal to felsic intrusive bodies, where contact metamorphic aureoles of amphibolite grade may be developed) and variably altered volcanic and interflow sedimentary rocks. Intrusive rocks in the area include felsic bodies (including syenite), generally north striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic according to Heaman 1989) Matachewan swarm, and lamprophyre dikes. Jensen interpreted the supracrustal rocks near the occurrence to belong to the (Archean) Kinojevis Group, but proximity of the occurrence to the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone makes it likely that the basement country rock here is instead part of a lithologically and structurally complex rock suite which has been termed the Porcupine-Destor Complex by Jensen and Langford.

Mineralization Comments

Apr 18, 2016 (A Wilson) - Assays from the Paracontinental drilling returned values of: 0.135 oz/t Au over 3.14 m; 0.56 oz/t Au over 8.17 m.

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Diamond drilling by Wright-Hargreaves Mines is reported (exploration files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake) to have yielded anomalously elevated gold tenors ranging from 0.02 to 0.09 ounce of gold per ton from core lengths ranging from 0.4 to 8.0 feet which are associated with quartz stringer and associated pyrite and/or chalcopyrite mineralization, calcite stringer and associated pyrite and chalcopyrite mineralization, and pyritic feldspathic material near a porphyry/greenstone contact. Country rocks in the area include andesite, rhyolite, porphyry, siliceous porphyry, and syenite. The Durham occurrence is approximately along strike from and is likely spatially associated with the same south southeast striking structure with which the Gunnar and Creek Zone deposits are associated (several hundred metres south southeast of the Durham occurrence).
