Access Description: Pit is located on a side road 400 m southeast of the road through Bourkes and 3.8 km east of Hwy 11.



Exploration History

Pre1921: Scotvold - $3/ton gold ($20/ounce gold) from a north-trending pyritic lamprophyre dike. 1988: Villneuve Resources Ltd. - Ground VLF-EM and total field magnetic surveys; DD-10-5351 ft. 1990: D. and R. Rochon.; pitting, sampling, assays. 1992: O. Hicks - DD-1-173 m, assays. 2007-08: Northern Gold Mining Inc. - IP survey.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D Guidon) - The property is underlain by mafic metavolcanic rocks of the Kinojevis assemblage of the Western Abitibi subprovince, part of the Superior Province. The rocks of the Blake River assemblage lie to the northeast and the contact between them is northwest trending about 3 km away. The bedrock is covered by clays of the northern Abitibi clay plain.

Dec 07, 2005 (D Guidon) - The pit is located in foliated tholeiitic mafic volcanic rocks. The foliation is 160-90.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (D Guidon) - The mafic volcanic rocks found in the pit contain about 1% disseminated pyrite. The mineralization reported in the lamprophyre rocks were not found.


May 26, 2016 (A Wilson) - An assay value of 0.15 oz./t Au was reported from a zone of pyrite mineralization in a lamprophyre dike. Assays from O. Hicks drill hole returned low gold values. The best assay was 0.016 oz./t Au over 18 cm.

Notes: Property visited August 12, 1999 . A pit about 10' x 5' x 3' deep was found. The old road is west of the new road. The long direction of the pit is about 290 degrees. Shearing in the pit is 160-90. Sample: 99317 - tholeiitic mafic volcanic.
