Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Geological mapping (Gupta and Johnstone 1987, Jensen and Baker 1986, Johnstone 1986, Johnstone and Steele 1989; Vagners 1984; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; Steele 1988) indicates that bedrock in the area is largely glacial drift covered and consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic grade) mafic to ultramafic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group. The occurrence is several hundred metres northeast of the inferred position of the Pipestone Fault Zone.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Leahy and Ginn (1962) reported that: 'A grab sample taken by the O.D.M. in 1961 from a quartz-carbonate vein with pyrite and arsenopyrite in lot 12, concession I from the east-southeasterly fault contained 0.05 ounce of gold per ton. This zone is opened by a number of old pits.' (marginal notes) The east southeast striking fault with which the anomalous gold mineralization is associated is oriented subparallel to the inferred strike of the Pipestone Fault Zone. The style of mineralization which is reported to occur here is similar to that characterizing other gold occurrences along the Pipestone and Porcupine-Destor Fault Zones.
