Access Description: Point Located: A point 2.47 km north and 1.68 km west of the southeast corner of Wilkie Township.
1974: Imperial Oil Ltd. completed magnetic and HL electromagnetic surveys in the area. 1984- 1989: E. Fournier (of Dane) stripped overburden, blasted trenches in bedrock, and diamond drilled 7 holes totalling 1,684 feet. Hole no. 3 is reported to have intersected a 3 foot section of porphyritic andesite mineralized with blebs of fine grained pyrite and pyrrhotite which assayed 0.02 ounce of gold per ton. Hole no. 4 is reported to have intersected a 2.5 foot section of porphyritic andesite containing disseminated pyrrhotite which assayed 0.06 ounce of gold per ton and quartz-carbonate veinlet controlled pyrite-pyrrhotite mineralization which across a 2.5 foot long core length averaged 0.18 ounce of gold per ton and 0.03 ounce of silver per ton (E. Fournier, prospector, pers. comm., 1988). 1997: Trenching on claim 1186304 by E. Fournier. Best assay was 927 ppb Au.

Province: Superior
Geological Age: Archean
Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist
Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Geological mapping (Sutcliffe and Steele 1989; Johnstone and Steele 1989; Gupta and Johnstone 1987; MERQ-OGS 1983; Leahy and Ginn 1962; Steele 1988; McClenaghan et al. 1989, 1988, 1987; Richard and McClenaghan 1985; assessment and exploration files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake) indicates that bedrock in the occurrence area is almost entirely glacial drift covered. The occurrence is about 2.5 km northeast of the Pipestone Fault Zone (PFZ) and is hosted mainly by weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic grade) ultramafic to felsic subaqueously deposited volcanic and variably graphitic clastic and chemical interflow sedimentary rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group. Bedrock hosting the occurrence strikes east southeast. The occurrence location is about midway between the axes of a regional scale anticline (to the north)/syncline (to the south) pair the surface traces of which in the Walker/Wilkie Township area have been interpreted to parallel the surface trace of the PFZ and which are developed in Stoughton-Roquemaure Group rocks north and within about 5 km of the PFZ. Intrusive rocks in the area include large felsic intrusive bodies (the nearest of which is about 2.5 km southwest of the occurrence near or within the PFZ) and ubiquitous narrow (generally less than several tens of metres in width) diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic according to Heaman 1989) Matachewan swarm which usually strike north. A recent geophysical survey of Wilkie Township (OGS 1984) failed to detect any anomalous bedrock conductors near the occurrence.

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Diamond drilling by E. Fournier on the north limb of a regional scale syncline in an area known to host felsic volcanic rocks on the syncline's south limb (Sutcliffe and Steele 1989) has intersected weakly carbonatized and epidote altered subaqueously deposited porphyritic andesite flows and interflow clastic and chemical sedimentary rocks. Erratically distributed and scant pyrite, pyrrhotite, and chalcopyrite mineralization intersected by this drilling is reported (E. Fournier, prospector, pers, comm., 1988) to have yielded core lengths of 2.5, 2.5, and 3.0 feet which averaged 0.06, 0.18, and 0.02 ounce of gold per ton.
