Exploration History

1949-1950: Canadian Johns-Manville Co. Ltd. held 13 claims in lots 3 and 4, concession VI, Munro Township, and in lots 4 and 5, concession I, Warden Township, some of which were optioned from H.M. Ford. Canadian Johns-Manville completed a magnetic survey and diamond drilled 2 holes totalling 1,230 feet. Canadian Johns-Manville dropped the option in 1950 (Satterly 1952). 1953: The Dyman Prospecting Syndicate diamond drilled 4 holes totalling 467.5 feet on claims previously worked by Johns-Manville which were adjacent to (and part of?) the Ford claim group. 1963: Canadian Johns-Manville completed electromagnetic and magnetic surveys and diamond drilled 3 holes totalling 831 feet (Vos 1971). 1971: The 13 claims which formerly comprised the H.M. Ford property are reported to be variously controlled by Canadian Johns-Manville Co. Ltd. and Hedman Mines Ltd. (Vos 1971).

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Degagne) - Diamond drilling indicates that the area is underlain mainly by variably glacial drift covered peridotite and diabase of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group and/or younger mafic to ultramafic intrusive bodies (Satterly 1952; Johnstone and Trowell 1985; Johnstone 1987, 1986; Jensen and Baker 1986; Johnstone and Steele 1989; Vagners 1984; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; Steele 1988), north striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm (Heaman 1989) and northeast striking olivine diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Abitibi swarm. Bedrock stratigraphy is southeast striking, steeply dipping, south facing, and occupies part of the north limb of the southeast striking and northwest plunging McCool Hill Syncline (Johnstone 1987, 1986; OGS 1984; Johnstone and Trowell 1985).

Dec 07, 2005 (R Degagne) - Hewitt and Satterly (1953) reported that: ...Serpentinized dunite and peridotite, carrying a few thread veins of chrysotile asbestos, were cut by the holes. The option was dropped on the Ford claims in 1950. (p.15).
