Exploration History

1917: The southeast quarter of the north half of lot 8, concession II, Munro Township was patented by A.G.C. Dinnick (Satterly 1952). 1952: By this time, a 5x6 foot vertical shaft was sunk on a 5 foot wide quartz vein breccia (Satterly 1952). 1952-1960: W.T. Stewart diamond drilled numerous short holes in the area, including 3 on the (formerly patented) Dinnick claim. No diamond drill logs nor assay data from this drilling are available. 1978-1979: Amax of Canada Ltd. staked 9 claims in the area, including what once was the patented Dinnick claim, and completed electromagnetic, magnetic and geological surveys.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Degagne) - The shaft is indicated by Satterly to be near the north margin of a major southeast striking structure, the Munro Fault Zone; Jensen and Langford (1985) and Johnstone (1987) refer to this structure as the Middle Branch of the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Degagne) - Near the southwest corner of the Dinnick claim (the southeast quarter of the north half of lot 8, concession II, Munro Township), spatially associated with a north striking diabase dike of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm (Heaman 1989), a 5x6 foot vertical shaft has been sunk. The shaft is reported (Satterly 1952) to explore a 5 foot wide, 115 striking quartz vein breccia which is hosted by variably glacial drift covered (Vagners 1984; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; Steele 1988) metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) carbonatized volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group (Johnstone and Trowell 1984, 1985; Jensen and Baker 1986; Johnstone 1987; Johnstone and Steele 1989). The volcanic stratigraphy strikes southeast, dips steeply and faces north (Satterly 1952, Johnstone 1987).
