Province: Superior
Geological Age: Archean
Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist
Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Geological mapping (Prest 1953; Johnstone and Trowell 1985; Jensen and Baker 1986; Johnstone and Steele 1989; Troop 1989; Vagners 1984; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; Steele 1988) indicates that bedrock in the area is largely glacial drift covered and consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic grade, except marginal to large felsic intrusive bodies, where contact metamorphic aureoles of amphibolite grade may be developed) mafic to ultramafic volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group and turbiditic sediments of the (Archean) Porcupine Group.
