Geological Age: Archean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Geological mapping (Prest 1953; Johnstone and Trowell 1985; Jensen and Baker 1986; Johnstone and Steele 1989; Troop 1989; Baker et al. 1980; Vagners 1984; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; Steele 1988) indicates that the area is underlain mainly by sparsely exposed weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton- Roquemaure Group which strike southeast, dip steeply, and face north. Intrusive rocks in the area include large irregularly shaped felsic stocks and north striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm (Heaman 1989). The southeast striking Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone is several hundred metres southwest of the occurrence and the Munro Fault Zone (also referred to as the Middle Branch of the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone (Jensen and Langford 1985, Johnstone 1987)) is several hundred metres northeast of the occurrence.

Mineralization Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Anomalous (greater than 0.01 ounce of gold per ton) gold tenors are reported (assessment files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake) to be associated with quartz veins hosted by fine grained volcanic rocks. The quartz veins are reported to have developed around them pyritic halos where the gold concentrations are greatest. The best recorded diamond drill intersection is 0.02 ounce of gold per ton over a 2.5 foot core length. A trench grab sample averaging 0.03 ounce of gold per ton is also recorded.
