Point Location Description: Shaft
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: Point Located: A point 1.19 km south and 4.30 km east of the northwest corner of Guibord Township. Best access to the Talisman occurrence is via Highway 101, from Matheson. A field vehicle may be parked on the Highway 101 road shoulder about 4.8 road km east of the intersection of Highways 101 and 572 (from Holtyre) from which the main outcrop area may be reached on foot through relatively open bush by proceeding about 150 m south.
1923- 1925: The property was held by Gardner Guibord Gold Mines Ltd. Shaft sinking on claim no. 8289 near the west end of the No.1 vein was begun in June, 1924, and by 1925 had reached the 100 foot level and lateral work to the north and south was begun (Sutherland et al. 1925). 1933: Talisman Gold Mines Ltd. was incorporated and acquired the property from the Black River Syndicate. By this time, previous operators had completed a vertical 108 foot deep 2 compartment shaft, 92 feet of drifting and 359 feet of crosscutting on the 100 foot level, and 30 feet of drifting on the 60 foot level. In August, Talisman Gold Mines began refurbishing the surface plant, dewatering the workings, and completed about 2,000 feet of trenching on two veins (Sinclair et al. 1935). 1934: Talisman Gold Mines completed 694 feet of crosscutting, 30 feet of raising, and 374 feet of drifting on the 30, 60, and 100 foot levels subsequent to which the mine was closed (Sinclair et al. 1936). 1941: The property was advertised for sherriff's sale (Prest 1953). 1942: The property was acquired by Shareholder's Securities Ltd. (Prest 1953).
Province: Superior
Geological Age: Archean
Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist
Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - The Talisman Gold Mines claims form a contiguous 6 claim block on the southeast striking, northwest plunging, and (generally) northeast facing south limb of the McCool Hill Syncline (Johnstone and Trowell 1985, Jensen and Baker 1986, Johnstone 1987, Johnstone and Steele 1989; Troop 1989). The claims straddle the (largely glacial drift covered (Vagners 1984; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; Steele 1988)) contact between weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic grade) north facing and steeply dipping (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group volcanic rocks (to the north) and steeply dipping (Archean) Porcupine Group sedimentary rocks (to the south). The northern third of the property is underlain by weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic grade) overburden covered steeply dipping, southeast striking, and northeast facing Fe-tholeiitic basalt (Johnstone and Trowell 1985). These rocks are well exposed along strike to the northwest and southeast but are mostly glacial drift covered on the property, being exposed at only one small outcrop in the north central part of claim 9188 (Prest 1953, Johnstone and Trowell 1985). The southern two thirds of the property is underlain by (weakly metamorphosed) sparsely exposed Porcupine Group turbiditic feldspathic wacke, interbedded siltstone, and conglomerate. Bedrock exposure is confined to the area around the old workings, mostly in the south half of claim 8289. Along strike to the northwest, these sediments face north with southeastern strikes and steeply north to slightly overturned (to the south) dips (Johnstone and Trowell 1985).

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - The No.1 vein (or high grade shoot) is on claim 8289. It is reported (assessment files) to be a 4 foot wide north 76 dipping (presumably stratigraphically conformable) carbonatized lamprophyre dike (or greywacke) which is cut by two 1-2 inch wide quartz veins and by numerous small quartz seams. The lamprophyre is described to be altered, pyritic, and to carry visible gold and gold telluride minerals. The No.2 vein is about 300 feet southeast of the No.1 vein, and is reported (assessment files) to strike 055 and to have a subvertical dip. Trenching of this vein is reported to have exposed a white to blue/white 4-18 inch wide quartz vein which locally consists of parallel stringer zones up to 5 feet in aggregate width. The vein is reported to be hosted by a carbonatized feldspathic wacke-conglomerate which is pyritic marginal to the vein.gold assays as high as $30.00 (0.87 ounce of gold per ton) with appreciable silver contents are reported from this vein. The Talisman occurrence (in the shaft area) was confirmed by Bath (1990) to consist of precious metal (Au, Ag) mineralization associated with disseminated pyrite. Generally, the pyrite occurs marginal to discordant quartz-carbonate veins hosted by sheared, sericitized, and carbonatized sediment. Anomalously elevated gold tenors were obtained from all assayed samples. The best assays (690 and 1,980 ppb of gold) were obtained from pyritic (7-10%), rusty weathering, dolomitized, and sericitized feldspathic wacke cut by quartz-dolomite veinlets.
Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - Generally, the pyrite occurs marginal to discordant quartz-carbonate veins hosted by sheared, sericitized, and carbonatized sediment.
