Ltd.; surface exploration, trenching, ground magnetic survey, ground EM survey, DD-7-1870 ft.; charter cancelled in 1977. 1988: Joutel Resources Ltd. - completed ground magnetic and HLEM surveys over a contiguous group of 9 patented and 8 unpatented claims electromagnetic surveys over a contiguous group of 9 patented and 8 unpatented claims (including claims formerly held by Clifford Gold Mines and Headwater Mines).

Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Abitibi

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Abitibi

Tectonic Assemblage: Kidd-Munro

Geological Age: Mesoarchean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Feb 12, 2016 (R Degagne) - Geological mapping indicates that bedrock in the area consists mainly of weekly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) tholeiitic and komatiitic volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group. Local bedrock stratigraphy strikes southeast, dips steeply, faces south and occupies part of the north limb of the southeast striking and northwest plunging McCool Hill Syncline.

Lithology Comments

Feb 12, 2016 (R Degagne) - Intrusive rocks in the area include a small (aeromagnetic data suggests a 300x600 m maximum cross section area) ultramafic-mafic sill which intrudes tholeiitic basalt no more than several tens of metres southwest (stratigraphically above) the main shaft and narrow (tens of metres in width) north striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm. A recent geophysical survey of Beatty Township failed to detect any significant bedrock conductors which coincide with the location of the known Clifford Gold Mines surface workings.

Mineralization Comments

Feb 12, 2016 (A Wilson) - Hopkins (1915) and Knight et al. (1919) reported that in lot 5, concession VI, Beatty Township, a 3 foot wide northwest striking rusty weathering pyrrhotitic band averaged as much as $0.40 in gold and traces of nickel (0.02 oz./t Au).

Feb 12, 2016 (R Degagne) - The Clifford Gold Mines Ltd. shaft and surface workings are in patented claim1890. Hopkins reported that a grab sample from a 3 foot wide northwest striking (conformable?) rusty weathering pyrrhotitic band averaged $0.40 (about 0.02 ounce of gold per ton) and only traces of nickel. In a Headwater Mines Ltd. prospectus dated 1963, E.L. MacVeigh reported that in the Clifford Gold Mines shaft area: ...The greenstone outcrops have shown considerable quartz vein development localized along the north margin of the diorite intrusive. Some locations with gold values are reported. These veins strike north 70 degrees east. In the same report, MacVeigh noted that ... on the Clifford part of the Headwater property some trenching and diamond drilling ... might present the same economic possibilities as found in the Blue Quartz [Mine, in Beatty Township] underground.
