Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Degagne) - Geological mapping (Leahy 1965, 1963; MERQ-0GS 1983; Jensen and Baker 1986; Johnstone and Steele 1989; Baker et al. 1980; Richard and McClenaghan 1985; Vagners 1984; McClenaghan et al. 1988, 1987; Steele 1988) indicates that bedrock in the area consists mainly of east striking, steeply dipping and south facing weakly metamorphosed (greenchist or lower metamorphic grade) subaqueously deposited volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group. A recent geophysical survey of Bowman Township (OGS 1984) failed to detect any significant bedrock conductors in the occurrence area.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (R Degagne) - A 2.5 foot wide quartz vein and/or quartz vein breccia with unspecified geometry and strike extent was once exposed in a 90 foot trench and is hosted by 'feldspar porphyry' which is variably sericitic and schistose. Spectacular free gold is reported to have been present; the best reported assay is 0.02 ounce of gold per ton (assessment files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake). Vein material observed by Leahy (1965) in a muck pile at this location was reported by him to be barren of sulfide minerals and visible gold although but the silicified porphyry host is reported by him to contain fine grained disseminated pyrite. The presence of fuchsite was also noted by Leahy (1963).
