Access Description: A point 1.90 km south and 2.90 km west of the northeast corner of Hislop Township. subdued bedrock exposure near the east shore of a small tributary creek of the Pike River (as indicated by Prest 1957) within the north half of lot 4, concession V, Hislop Township constitutes the sole bedrock exposure in the occurrence area. Access to this outcrop is via an overgrown gated road which joins the gravel road on the common boundary between lots 3 and 4, Hislop Township about 150 m north of the Bailey bridge spanning the Pike River, in concession V.

Exploration History

1939- 1945: Abuy Gold Mines Ltd.- surface sampling, DD-19-4192 ft. and diamond drilled 19 holes totalling 4,192 feet on the north half of lot 4, concession 5, Hislop Township. At the time, these claims were known as the McBride group. This drilling was completed in part as a result of an outcrop grab sample obtained from a small exposure of variably sheared and quartz veined carbonatized basalt which assayed 0.06 ounce of gold per ton. The drilling returned narrow and discontinuous intersections of anomalously elevated gold tenors (i.e. a 2.5 foot core section of brecciated feldspar porphyry averaging 0.25 ounce of gold per ton and a 1.2 foot core section of carbonatized volcanic rock averaging 0.26 ounce of gold per ton) from syenitic material, variably altered volcanic rock, and lamprophyre dike material. 1973-1974:Nevada Explorations Ltd. - DD-11-2003 ft; assays. The best assay from the drilling is reported to be a 5 foot core section which averaged 0.61 ounce of gold per ton. 1979-1980: A.P. Ginn and G.E. Parsons: geological mapping, ground magnetometer surveying; DD-38;assays.1993-94: Noranda Exploration Company Limited - ground magnetometer, VLF-EM, IP surveys; DD-4-919 m, sampling.

Geology Comments

Apr 15, 2016 (C Salo) - Geological mapping indicates that anomalous gold tenors at the McBride occurrence are hosted mainly by weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lowermetamorphic facies) southeast striking and steeply dipping mafic to ultramafic volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group and discontinuously developed felsic intrusivE bodies. The occurrence is either within or immediately marginal to the largely glacial drift covered locally southeast striking Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone, a regional scale structure which, in Hislop Township, separates south dipping and south facing (metamorphosed) volcanic and intercalated sedimentary rocks of the Stoughton-Roquemaure and overlying (Archean) Kinojevis Groups (to the south) from generally north dipping and north facing (metamorphosed) volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Stoughton-Roquemaure and (Archean) Porcupine Groups (to the north). Intrusive rocks in the area include large sill-like bodies of gabbroic or dioritic composition and smaller, discontinuous bodies of syenite, syenite porphyry, quartz porphyry, and quartz-feldspar porphyry, especially within and marginal to what is interpreted to be the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone. The youngest intrusive rocks in the area include narrow (tens of metres in width) north striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm and narrower (generally metre scale) lamprophyre dikes. A recent geophysical survey of Hislop Township failed to detect any significant bedrock conductors in the occurrence area.

Mineralization Comments

Apr 15, 2016 (A Wilson) - Assays from the 1945 drilling returned assays ranging from $1.07 Au over 8 inches to $9.10 Au over 1.2 ft. in syenite. Assays from carbonate schist returned assay values from $1.75 Au over 5 ft and $5.25 Au over 5.0 ft. At least 38 holes were diamond drilled by Ginn and numerous core intersections ranging from 10 to 50 feet in length averaged greater than 0.05 ounce of gold per ton (including 60 and 50 foot core lengths which averaged 0.038 and 0.068 ounce of gold per ton, respectively).

Apr 15, 2016 (C Salo) - The bedrock exposure consists of glacially polished and lichen covered variably carbonatized basalt which is intruded at its northwestern edge by felsic granitoid material the eastern contact of which is east northeast striking. A narrow (less than 0.5 m wide) 020 striking ill-defined shear is developed in the basalt and hosts irregularly developed but laterally continuous quartz-Fe-dolomite veinlets which are nowhere wider than about 15 cm. Marginal to the shear, the basalt is rusty weathering and variably Fe-dolomitized (sample AB-86-166) while the sheared basalt and the marginal incipiently sheared basalt is pervasively Fe-dolomitized and pink feldspar porphyroblastic. The shear is characterized by the presence of 3-4% of very fine grained disseminated pyrite and/or hematite. A chip sample of pyritic and altered basalt marginal and east of the shear and a channel sample of pyritic basalt marginal to and east of the shear assayed 530 and 440 ppb of gold, respectively. A grab sample from the same shear is also reported to have assayed 0.06 ounce of gold per ton (about 1900 ppb of gold). Diamond drilling by Nevada Explorations in 1974 and by Ginn and Parsons in 1979 and 1980 intersected numerous diamond drillcore lengths ranging from 5 to 60 feet in length which averaged greater than 0.05 ounce of gold per ton. The auriferous material is logged as occurring in association with quartz-carbonate vein material developed in mafic to ultramafic volcanic rocks, lamprophyre dikes, and intrusive felsic (often hornblende bearing) syenite, and is often accompanied by pyrite, chalcopyrite, molybdenite, hematite, and (rarely) fine grained visible gold.

Alteration Comments

Apr 15, 2016 (C Salo) - Shear composed of coarse to fine grained carbonatized and sericitized material.
