Geology

Province: Superior

Subprovince: Abitibi

Terrane: Wawa-Abitibi

Belt: Abitibi

Geological Age: Mesoarchean

Metamorphism Grade: Greenschist

Geology Comments

Jan 19, 2016 (R Degagne) - Geological mapping indicates that bedrock in the area consists mainly of weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic grade) volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group. A major lithologic contact (that between the Stoughton-Roquemaure Group volcanic rocks and overlying (weakly metamorphosed) turbiditic sediments of the (Archean) Porcupine Group) and a regional scale north northwest striking bedrock fault (the Black River Fault) also occur in the area.

Mineralization Comments

Jan 19, 2016 (A Wilson) - Assays from the diamond drill hole CARR-6-2 ranged from nil to 0.333 gpt Au in carbonate altered mafic metavolcanics.

Jan 19, 2016 (R Degagne) - Sample CR-10-1 (68-80 m) returned assays of 15,000 ppb Au, 144 ppm Cu, 139 ppm Zn, 50 ppm Ni, and 92 ppm As. No anomalous mineralization in the area has been reported. Heavy mineral concentrates from a sand/gravel horizon sampled during various overburden drilling programs do, however, 'assay as much as 15 ppm gold' (assessment files, Resident Geologist's Office, Kirkland Lake).
