Geology Comments

Apr 21, 2016 (C Salo) - Bedrock consists mainly of largely glacial drift covered east northeast to east southeast striking weakly metamorphosed (greenschist or lower metamorphic facies) mafic to felsic volcanic rocks of the (Archean) Stoughton-Roquemaure Group which are intruded by conformable mafic to ultramafic bodies and north striking diabase dikes of the (Proterozoic) Matachewan swarm.

Lithology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Salo) - AB-85-03: Thin section from Canamax hole 1131-09-01, footage 44.9 m. Moderately well banded carbonatized and sericitized wacke consisting of angular quartz grains, angular sericitized plagioclase grains, and variably carbonatized and sericitized flattened lithic fragments supported by an anastomosing fine grained sericite-carbonate matrix. AB-85-04: Thin section from Canamax hole 1131-09-01, footage 53.9 m. Fine grained carbonate-sericite schist. Schistosity is defined by the alignment of sericite. Fragmental textures are clearly evident in thin section, but whether these textures are due to tectonism or whether they are due to a primary fabric is not known. Some clasts appear to be sedimentary, others may be volcanic. This may represent a fine grained carbonatized and sericitized schistose epiclastic volcanic rock. AB-85-05: Thin section from Canamax hole 1131-09-01, footage 57.0 m. Incipiently foliated arenaceous argillite. Pervasively sericitized and carbonatized and cut by hairline discontinuously developed quartz-carbonate veinlets. The sample contains elongate flakes of opaque (carbonaceous?) material. AB-85-06: Thin section from Canamax hole 1131-09-01, footage 62.8 m. Carbonatized, sericitized, and silicified(? fine grained basalt or andesite. Fine grained matrix supported relic plagioclase laths are present. A weak foliation is displayed by the alignment of sericite grains. Note incipient and irregular development of quartz-carbonate veinlets and carbonate; recrystallized quartz domains form protoveinlets. AB-85-07: Thin section from Canamax hole 1131-09-01, footage 72.25 m. Weakly foliated fine grained quartz-sericite-carbonate supporting 1 mm size variably strained and incipiently sericitized subrounded to subhedral plagioclase crystals. Locally, secondary and/or recrystallized quartz occurs in the fine grained matrix. This is probably an altered tuff.

Mineralization Comments

Apr 21, 2016 (C Salo) - Assays from Hollinger Argus drill hole no. WA1-1-79 (collared in the west half of the south half of lot 3, concession 5) returned copper tenors ranging from 230 to 4,400 ppm over core lengths of up to 2 metres of carbonatized andesite and zinc assays ranging from 55 to 1,800 ppm over core lengths as long as 12.2 metres of graphitic tuff. Minerals noted in the Hollinger Argus drill logs include native copper, niccolite, sphalerite, realgar, orpiment, cinnabar, fuchsite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, and graphite. In 1982, Canamax Resources diamond drilled hole no. 1131 -09-1 several hundred metres northwest of the Hollinger Argus diamond drill holes. Core from Canamax Resources hole no. 1131-09-01 is stored at the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines Core Storage Library, in Swastika, and is available for examination and sampling. Kidd Creek Mines Ltd. analyzed samples from this hole in 1985. The results of the Kidd Creek sampling are on file at the Core Storage Library.
